  1. Just to add in some mumbo jumbo and I am sure that Chris will correct me. All my windows are less than a meter, and I think that FM radio signals are wider than that (could be well off with that) but it means that I do not get a very good FM signal in the boat. So either big windows or external aerial.
  2. Did he check that the bung in the bottom of the boat was secure.... you dont want it to sink

I also have this problem so would like to know what to do. Maybe i need to repack the grease? Tim
  4. www.toolstaion.co.uk are by far the cheapest (never sure of the spelling for that, i mean low cost rather than bird noises). They are annodised alu so not great for outdoors as they are a little flexable. Maybe cost £1.60 rather than £4.50 from homebase They also sell very cheap tools which you cannot go wrong with if you are careful. Free postage over £40 but you would have to have a very long shopping list to do that otherwise it is £5 Also very good for those chain links for the feneders 10 for the price of one from homebase and excellent for all things sealant.
  5. Sorry again if this is a frequest question. I think i have decided that i want a satin varnish finish. I have about 25 ft of internal oak ply to varnish. Can anyone suggest a good brand of satin varnish to use and also how much would i need to do the walls and celling (aprox). Does anyone know if Liberon which is available from tool station at £4.50 per .75l is any good in terms of quality and price? thanks Tim
  6. Thanks all for that very complicated and slightly off topic (but never the less very interesting) diversion from TVs. I think that i shall buy a 240 volt tv when i have the money having looked at what everyone has has to say Tim
  7. Is there such a thing as a gas meter for calor gas bottles. I know that you can just shake them to see how much is in there but i want something less shake intensive. Tim
  8. I have just bought a boat which is equiped with a mastervolt mass 12/80 charger with a MICC control pannel. On the unit itself there is 240V going in and 12-14v coming out, so i asume that it is working and my batteries have not gone flat. However the MICC control pannel does not measure the charge the batteries have correctly. Also when the batteries are charging the control pannel shows 0 amps charge. I have been told that all negative terminals from the inverter and charger should be joined to the DC shunt. Currently the inverter is connected to the shunt but the charger negative goes to the nagative battery terminal. So think that the current is not being meausred because it is not connect to the shunt. Please could anyone shed some light on my confusion Thanks Tim
  9. I am thinking of buying a lcd TV, but i dont know what sort to go for 12v or 240v. I currently have a good mastervolt inverter which can supply ample power for all my needs. But which would be the most efficient. I realise that the cost of the 12v TVs is much higher than a normal 240v TV so the energy saving would have to be considerable. Appologies if this question has been posed a million times before. Tim
  10. I have just bought a narrow boat (45ft) and am thinking of buying a solid feul stove. My Question is; how far does the stove have to be away from other stuff, like my sofa which takes up lots of space. Thanks in advance Tim
