  1. I recently bought a second hand Premier range. I took it to bits as the Little knob on the top right hand side did not move and it looked like it should. I undid all the counter sunk screws with nuts under them and removed the 'lid'. Fixed the flappy thing the knob was connected to and slapped copper slip on it. I did not remove the fire bricks but looked like the had been fixed in with fire cement. If the crack bothers you sick some fire cement in. On a previous Squirrel stove I fitted fire bricks from Wilkinson's (approx £1.50 each 3 years ago) cut to fit with an angle grinder. Sorted!

  2. I'll add my comments if I may. Price is not a guarantee of the quality of the boat, as I am sure most people are aware. Its not like buying a car where you can look at a number of vehicles of the same age same extras and compare price. Even if find two boats the same one might smell and the other not!

Do not discount any boat because of its price, it could be the one for you. Our last boat was a 60ft Hessford with a cruiser stern and BMC1.8 not every ones cup of tea but we had a great time with it for four years. It was certainly more fum than not having a boat.

  3. That's strange, i was just thinking of Yevertoft marina and checked it out. It is apparently due to be started early 2009 for completion and use in 2010. I wounder if the economic down turn has changed the plans? I do hope not as I will be looking for a mooring around this area (Leicester Line) later in 2009.

  4. Hi All

I didn't phone the boys as BSS today as events of the day overtook me! But I will ring them when all this merriment malarkey is over, hic. My original plan was to have the generator running in the front deck area connected to the boat gas supply via a bayonet fitting as the Motor home folks use to connect to their BB Q's. Not a permanent fitting, just temporary for when I need extra 230v.

  5. Hi Lee

No I have not as I've just got home from work. (19.35hrs) I will ring tomorrow and post the information I am given. Rob, thanks for the contact names and number.

So... some one has this system, or tried to install. I don't suppose anyone knows anything?

  6. From the BSS

7.14.1 Portable Appliance (Appliance connector to isolation valve not fitted with bayonet, plug-in or screwed connection)

Flexible hose should be connected to the isolation valves by means of a bayonet, plug in or screwed connection.

7.14.2 Portable Appliance isolation valve (Screwed connection not properly plugged or capped when appliance not connected.)

Pipework to portable appliances fitted a screwed connection should be properly plugged or capped when the appliance is not connected.

This seems to say I can have a gas point (in the front deck area) so long as its a bayonet fitting, has an isolation valve and can be capped when not in use. As in 'Gas Micropoint' in the BES catalog.

Can anyone see a problem? I would like to conform to the regulation not an individuals interpretation. I know I can run the generator off a bottle after I have dragged one out of the gas locker but would like to make it easy to use.

  7. My plan is to buy a Honda EU20i generator with a LPG gas conversion. My aim is to run it off the boat gas system using a bayonet fitting as the motor-home bods do with their BBQ. My question is can I get this to conform to the BSS. My interpretation is that I can but then I am biased.

  8. This works -took close to 2 months but works. I could not walk first thing in the morning or aafter any period of rest.

You are here: Home>Heel Pain > Heel Pain Excercises

    Heel Pain Exercises

    1. Achilles tendon and plantar fascia stretch

First thing in the morning, loop a towel, a piece of elastic or a tubigrip

around the ball of your foot and, keeping your knee straight, pull your

toes towards your nose, holding for 30 seconds. Repeat 3 times for each

    foot.

    2. Wall push-ups or stretches for Achilles tendon

The Achilles tendon comes from the muscles at the back of your thigh and

your calf muscles. These exercises need to be performed first with the

knee straight and then with the knee bent in order to stretch both parts

of the Achilles tendon. Twice a day do the following wall push-ups or

stretches: (a) Face the wall, put both hands on the wall at shoulder

height, and stagger the feet (one foot in front of the other). The front

foot should be approximately 30 cm (12 inches) from the wall. With the

front knee bent and the back knee straight, lean into the stretch (i.e.

towards the wall) until a tightening is felt in the calf of the back leg,

and then ease off. Repeat 10 times. ( Now repeat this exercise but bring

the back foot forward a little so that the back knee is slightly bent.

    Repeat the push-ups 10 times.

    3. Stair stretches for Achilles tendon and plantar fascia

Holding the stair-rail for support, with legs slightly apart, position the

feet so that both heels are off the end of the step. Lower the heels,

keeping the knees straight, until a tightening is felt in the calf. Hold

this position for 20-60 seconds and then raise the heels back to neutral.

Repeat 6 times, at least twice a day.

    4. Dynamic stretches for plantar fascia

This involves rolling the arch of the foot over a tennis ball or a heel

pain massager etc, while either standing (holding the back of a chair for

support) or sitting. Allow the foot and ankle to move in all directions

over the object. This can be done for a few minutes until there is some

discomfort. Repeat this exercise at least twice a day. The discomfort can

be relieved by rolling the foot on a cool drinks can from the fridge.

    5. Pen Roll and Alphabet Excerscise

Place a pen on the floor and try to pick the pen up curling all your toes

around the pen. Once you have the pen hold for 5 seconds and repeat. Also

spell out the alphabet with your large toe, repeat 3 times for each foot.

Both exercises help to focus the stretch of the plantar fascia and promote

    healing.

  9. Hi all

Looking at the photos it appears very similar to a Chinese Twin model 295 and gearbox I have in my garage. The manual I have says its made by the Fuzhou engine works and has a bore of 95mm and a stroke of 115mm. It is complete with a wooden box of new spares (including a head gasket, rings, seals and loads of other bits and even a starting handle) I originally purchased this for a narrowboat project but it has been superseded! Is this anything like a Kingfisher?

  10. The set up we had involved a BMC 1.8 An Alde boiler and a twin coil hot water tank plus 3 radiators. We only used One coil but had valves so we could heat the water and/or the radiators from the engine. Very hot water and radiator, did not over cool the engine as the take off was after the thermostat. We had to isolate the boiler with valves from the heating circuit as the engine is a pressurised system and the Alde is vented. There were a total of 8 valves and it was apparantly complicated as some of my crew (one) could not work it out. If you want I can sent you a diagram,

    it may help.

  11. Hi

Did the VHF-DSC one day course three Saturdays ago. I cost me £95 and had to pay RYA £25 for the certificate of Competence and provide a passport size photo. This certificate will allow me to operate a VHF marine radio. OFCOM will provide a free licence but with out the CoC you are not supposed to use it.

All because I want to go up the Thames tidal bit and the Port Of London Authority, who manage it, require a VHF marine radio to be carried or fitted.

  12. Hi

All being well we are off to the Boat Museum, Ellesmere Port tomorrow and my wife asked 'what’s there?' As I have not been before I could not answer her apart from a guess of similar to Stoke Bruerne but more! Can any one give me any info on what’s not to be missed?

  13. I have the book 'Stem to stren' and whilst there is some good iformation I feel I need more.. I have found the plans that Lawrence Hogg sells for £45 but would like to find the ones in the virtualwaterways link or a least a way at having a look at them before purchase. Or the independant recommendation of some one who has completed a back cabin.

  14. I have tried to find the plans from the virtualwaterways link but need a bit of help. What do I enter and in which field?

My be some one can point me in the right direction.

Are the plans on fleabay no 150216561497 @ £34.95 the ones? Has any one used them with success?

  15. Just reading the topic on hight of canals and began to wonder if the hights are influenced by the moon? Almost tidal. Before you laugh at my question the Wolverhampton level is showing as 37 miles long and as the English Chanel is only 21 miles...

    Just a thought.
