  1. Carl, I didn't know that the water around there was any different than locally.

I live about 1/2 a mile away from this site and have seen it on passing and standing on top of the boat, I can see it has been dug very deep, maybe 10 feet or so it seems looking from the canal.

I have searched the net for info but can't find anything definite on completion dates or anything else, I will have to have a walk up there and check out the sign which must have only just been erected.

  2. Found this on the "I.W.A" website, it was dated June 2006 but I believe it still to be the case.

    Trent & Mersey Canal

At its meeting on 16th May, the planning committee at Vale Royal Borough Council, with one abstention, voted unanimously to reject the application from Ripple Developments to construct a marina in Billinge Green Flash. IWA’s Chester & District Branch had lobbied strongly against the application. A decision on the Park Farm marina, which is proposed for the towing path side of the canal in the same area was deferred. The developer, Travelreign, has amended its plans, halving the size of the marina, and a consultation period on this development was extended to 24th May.

  3. Hi James,

I had a leak from the gunwhale area over the bed, it only leaked visibly when it rained heavy.

I too sealed all around the window frame above the bed,but everytime I tested it with a hosepipe , it still leaked.

I ended up removing the panelling from below the window inside and spraying water on small individual areas of the window frame outside.

Eventually I narrowed it down one of the screwholes in the frame, even with the screw in place it leaked.

So I removed all the screws and pumped a bit of sealant into each screwhole before refitting the screws.

Might be worth checking, good luck.

  4. Hi Colin, I have a Liverpool boat with the Vetus watercooled sterngear and it does have a hole through to the weedhatch but it is very difficult to see and cannot be felt with the finger.

My understanding is that the cooling water enters from the sterntube and is expelled via the rubber hose, into the weedhatch.

Have another close look in the weedhatch( maybe use a mirror ) and see if you have a small hole there, it is only about 3 or 4 mm.

  6. Hi Gibbo,

Martin from Vimart did the signwriting on our boat on the mooring at Swanley Bridge, on a windy couple of days last March and it was brass monkey cold.

I kept him topped up with hot cuppa soups to keep his fingers thawed out.

He did a great job and he is nice bloke too, I will be going to the boat this week so I'll pop in and have a look.

  7. We have the same symptoms with our water pump, it cuts in for maybe 2 or 3 clicks every couple of hours or so.

I have checked thouroughly for leaks and can't find any, I guess it could be the valve in the pump which is not holding pressure 100%.

I can put up a few clicks every couple of hours.

  8. Hi Ian,

I live in a house which backs onto the towpath just 100 yards from the Broken Cross pub.

I've not heard of any problems in the 12 months that we have been here.

I have my boat moored at the back of the house at the moment, ready for a jaunt along the Bridgewater next week.

If you are uncomfortable mooring at the pub, just moor behind the houses near us.

    Les.

P.S. Just thought, if it's the pub food that you have checked reviews for, I haven't eaten there so I have no opinion.

  9. Great pic Les....I didn't venture too close 'cause it was slippy..and I had an eight year old behind me with a chuffin' huge snowball!

I noticed a number of sluice gates or paddles or whatever you call them in the BW working boat...Those paddles are so much larger than you imagine them to be!

You'd think for the extra time it would take that BW would dredge out some of the crap at the bottom - some of those fallen stone blocks were quite large!

Yeah, there is a lot of debris on the bottom of the pounds.

Also did you notice the huge bulge below water level on the towpath side of the top pound, if you hug the bank on the way down into the second lock, I reckon you would ground on it.
