Do the bearers have an effect? Our engine (2LW) is bolted down on (or perhaps through) solid oak bearers, which the builder (Mel Davis) told us would reduce vibration compared with an engine bolted directly to metal. It looks very firm when running, though I have not yet tried balancing a coin on it.

Mine also has solid oak bearers and runs smoothly.  It is worth checking that all of the bolts are still tight of course.  Initally one of my injectors was not 100% but after getting all three reconditioned smoothness returned.

  2. Top lock closed and flight following with Cart in attendance running down water.  Now top lock bottom gate not opening and queues formed in the sun.

possibly Cart still on site and trying to get them to take a look.  Reports that similar issue last night.

  3. You also might find that this is being prompted by the alternator kicking in varying the load on the engine starting that off.  Not unusual if you have just taken over the boat and hence it has been little used but see you are going to squirt some oil in via the BA screw as well so think you have it all covered.

  4. On the top half of the fuel injection pump for the 4LW you will see a pair of fuel cotrol blocks each having 2 connections at the top to the injectors.  These are connected by a rod in the middle so these two units work together.  There should be a Lucas plaque showing the pump details on this and at the same level you should see a 2BA set screw on each of these two blocks.  That is were the oil goes.

Sorry no photo at the moment.
