On the Siskin build blog, on page one there is a photo with a working being converted to the right of Siskin. Not sure which one but it must be pretty recent.

Themis is a recent deconversion, having been converted twice in her past. First was in the 1950s as a BWB trip boat (Water Kelpie), then as a private cruiser/home.
As a past owner, I feel it's a real shame that she's been added to the massed ranks of highly-restored ex-working boats when she had a real period history of her own. I'm not sure why the present/recent owner decided to deconvert and then sell on so quickly. I believe he posts here occcasionally so may be able to offer enlightenment, I know there is the opposing view that 'the more the merrier' in terms of shiny ex-working boats.

Hi Tim,
It helps if I had added deconverted into my post!!!!! Thanks for making it make more sense!!!

Hi Joseph there have been many, the one I know of is GUCCco small woolwich butty Meteorwhich was converted, rather badly in 2004, then deconverted a couple of years ago, there is a thread in the ether of history and heritage regarding her. The other one is possibly Themis? Sure more will be along shortly.

Highlight for me has to be the birth of my daughter. Nothing else comes close!

Can I add Milton Keynes? Often derided, it has a great array of restaurants, bars, pubs, theatre, red light district, all of which can be reached with a short uphill walk from the canal.
Fenny Stratford, just to the south, has a number of gay, lesbian and transgender clubs within close proximity.
Take your pick.
A great theatre!

Excellent, lets do it!
- I might tag into whatever the YWBS are doing as im sure there will be an entry.
- However failing that, and time/boat dependent, whats the bonus for a steamboat?
Daniel
Work dependant, if you need an extra pair of hands, I could be available!
Edit for numpty fingers!!

I wonder if Steve Hudson modeled his Josher bow design on Hazel? Certainly looks familiar.
The Bow has been rebuilt by john woolley since that flyer and IIRC it lost a fair amount of its sweep, a good job though however, but not a true representation.

There is a parrot on a boat at the entrance to Braunston Marina. It's been there a few years.

I thought Alan Herd didn't have anything to do with "Dover" anymore............!

I agree with Carl, ice boards or planks are the way to go in this situation, it's all about dynamic risk assesment, and, like most things in life being proactive about the situation rather than being reactive, especially where wooden or fibreglass boats are concerned. There is also the possibility that movement of the boat due to occupation can scratch the blacking off which could be mis-construed as a moving boats' fault, and then the unfortunate moving boat is in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I'd give her a good home, but for ALOT less and they can keep the fit out stuff, just have the hull please!

Here's part of the reason this one survived.
One of the more unlikely hireboats, even back in the 1970s.
I believed it steered well enough, but not having a counter, even with added "fish plates", (if that's the correct term!), it wasn't the greatest stopper.
It had an SR3 then too, so perhaps it's the same one ?
25K does sound a lot, but perhaps it is in fair condition, I don't know ?
We raised her 15 years ago when she was section 8-ed at trent lock and sunk. When we got her, if i remember correctly there was no engine in, and the rudder had been "Misplaced" by a boat yard. i'm sure my dad will be along soon with more details, but as i recall we docked her, did work as necessary and sold her on. She was in a fair to good condition then, except for some rot on the stern, which we patched up. This was my first, brief, experience of a wooden boat, and not my last!!!! she did have cavitation plates fitted, and i think the prop was still there!
I have to say though £25000.......really? is there a typo?

Oh, can it not be Talisker? I like Talisker and have been collecting empty bottles in preparation for all the engines my dad has to restore!!!

Hi Brian,
According to A.M Models website, it was originally MAIA,so it appears the outlook is bleak unfortunately.
Nice shot of Banstead in Birmingham and Midland colours by the way!!

I agree, i have quite a soft spot for woolwich's, small and large, I spent my teenage years as a butty steerer on a small woolwich. Have a good trip whenever you go, it would be interesting to see any photos if you get any.

In which case i have totally got the wrong end of the stick. As I live at the other end of the country please can you provide a link with up to date information as to the current progress with the boats there, so as i can follow the regular updates as to recording / restoration?

I agree with carl, its all very well getting new status, and touch screens and the like, but what about the rotting and rusting hulks lying around, whats going to happen to them, are they resigned to being broken up and then smoky historic pictures displayed on the nice touch screens in a "Lets see what you could have won" style. Its all very well expanding the archive for the public, but these boats should be made a priority. now is the time to sort out where the priorities of the museum lie, i understand its about getting people through the doors but unless the boats are restored, all you're going to see is a few touch screens (if indeed they are working), an expanded but hideously overspent archive room and a token gift shop to get some fudge with a pretty picture on. Forgive the pessimistic view but it seems that this museum has had many chances to realign its priorities but internal politics seem to win over, and sadly again i think this will happen again, never mind the use it or lose it theory, how about the manage it or damage it theory??

Any more pictures?

I would lose them off the sides and replace on the bow and on the swim, saves any potential hanging! Hurleston bottom is pretty narrow!!

Cassette or pumpout, it doesn't say?
Casp'
Edited.. I knew I would be too slow, damn reception..

Cassette or pump out? And is there enough room for kids on the roof? In light of the recent weather and soft ground, please slow down when passing moored boats and watch out for those GRP's!!!!!!!
