"Brick" was what came to mind when looking at an unidentified high in the water (no engine in it) ex-working boat I saw at Langley mill recently which I took to be an Admiral Class or something similar.
That would be 'Effingham', currently owned by Pete, who runs the boat yard. It is currently undergoing full restoration, and whilst not having the lines of other styles of ex working boats it's still a piece of history, even if it is perceived as a brick, which IMO it isn't!!

Disgusting.

Thinking about it, might need that long to get all the boats round the parade!!

Runs from January 1st to December 31st

If you fancy avoiding crowds, have a meander down the trent, do the Chesterfield, then down the Fossdyke to Lincoln, Witham to Boston and explore the Slea, and Witham Navigable Drains. Peace, quiet and very tranquil!

Hi Alan, Screwfix sell a High Temp Black Aerosol, failing that, have you tried Black stove paint?
Do you require matt or gloss finish?

Once again another splendid show at Braunston.
How about these two for a nice pair of likely lads?! (Tom and Jay off Archimedes and Ara)
Also, the wife's just started Twitter so anyone want to help me out by tweeting her, she's @nb_empire
Terence
And I appear to be in the background on Linnet's roof, waiting for movement in the parade, it's a rare moment captured on camera for no boats to be moving on the Saturday, it flowed so freely.........

You've no chance of seeing the knees at the moment! Admiral was pretty well loaded with bagged coal.
And looking very smart!

I was indeed there, Friday and Saturday, and was joined by my wife and Lily-Mae who was at her first boat gathering and seemed to love it!!!

Forgot that bit - the water up there is way clearer than any other canal we have been along - the fish can be clearly be seen.
which is good, cos you can also see whats on the bottom! coming down a few weeks ago, i was able to see a coil of wire on the bottom in the middle of the channel just above Long Eaton Lock, saved me a midday dip getting that off the prop!!!!
Yes, slightly hairy as on one of the narrower sections with a substantial tree sticking out from the offside!

Sod's Law states that is where you will always meet something, that or bridges on blind bends!!!!

Been up and back Thursday / Friday, and thought it was great. Clear water, little rubbish, graffiti and vandalism, friendly people. Much more rural than I thought it would be. The locks are a bit heavy though.
Richard
You must have passed my mum and dad going up on Friday, towing!!

Unfortunately the Erewash suffers a bad rep.
Boats burnt out in Long Eaton a few yrs ago & Ilkeston yobs mean most folks stay away, also I guess that its a dead end mean it doesnt see too much traffic.
In all its a nice trip in fairness but the fact that in the vicinity there is the Trent , Soar & T&M most folks stay away - To be fair we mainly use the Erewash as a fuel stop as Petrol is available at the garage in Long Eaton waterside !
But give it a go - Its worth it - & if eventually (But doubtful in my lifetime) they manage to get the Derby Canal rewatered it will be a worthy cruising route
Been up and down it for the past 25 years, we've seen our fair share of problems, but it has got better, in time!

I saw this on their website last night. Sad sad news. My thoughts are with Esther and their family.

came down the Erewash a couple of weeks ago, i thought the canal had vastly improved since 4 years previous when i was last on it, with the exception of the area around Mill St, which is inherently bad. We saw several boats moving, its nice to see it used!!

Theres a lovely little town called limoux, just outside Carcassonne by the Aude, if you are in the area, especially during carnival time!!
and not forgetting the local drink, Blanquette!

Edit for spacings!

Lovely, thanks Laurence.

Fair enough, I did wonder, as the BCNS page mentioned above had her as grey but the photo didn't look it, but I put it down photo quality.
Going off topic if anyone does have photos of her, it'd be great to build up a collection!!

from http://www.bcn-society.co.uk/BCNS_Photo_Gallery11.php
"For the grey and black scheme we have 'Christopher James' the Leonard Leigh tug built at the Salford Bridge boat dock of Spencer Abbott. Leonard Leigh tugs were painted in a variety of colour schemes featuring grey and white and grey and black, one of their earlier prewar tugs the 'Joan II' was grey overall framed in white with large white block letters, whilst their later tugs such as 'Christopher James' featured grey framed with black, picked out in white. However the grey scheme could be very utiltarian and the Keays/Stevens partnership painted the very attractive Keays built tug 'Judith Ann' in a very dour grey overall with somw simple lettering."
We are planning to paint her again, in shades of grey, simple but effective. And i do agree, she is very attractive, lovely shaped hull!
'Judith Ann' at Curdworth just before Pelsall 2011 canal festival, mid restoration.

Yeah I'll be there Saturday, alas no boat though, maybe next year!!

i can believe that, but it must have sculcked off somewhere, it wasn't on the bottom of the TV, mind you, after we'd been through we'd got most of the stuff off the bottom, and probably cut a nice new channel!
