If you need help moving up the Trent for a couple of days ask the widebeams on the top pound at Tinsley, they go up and down every year so maybe worth popping down to introduce and a chat as they’ll be neighbours and I’m sure they’ll enjoy a little trip.

🤣That’s where our mooring is and one of said wide beams is occupied by my father. We know know most quite well already, in fact I’l be drinking with them tomorrow night 😄

On a serious note I don’t want to put anybody out.

    Found the invoice :

October 2019 they charged £145 + VAT to lift out, load onto yard trailer, take across the yard, 'prop up' and remove trailer.

They charge by the metre and obviously at 60 foot you are ~18 metres we are just 11 metres.

I phoned about 2 months ago and I’m 90% sure the lady said £420, which I would be happy with if I’m honest.

Mine was lifted of the side and dropped in before wheelhouse, kitchen fitout and ballast it weighed 27 tons, it was just the stern section that needed ballast after everything was added 5 tons if I remember right so it would be about 35 tons plus? At 57 x 12 the OPs will be similar?

I quoted 28T to Nationwide I think but they said it would be nowhere near, more like 22-24 in our state of fit out, which is more or less fully fitted - kitchen and lounge.

From memory they charged us £160, a lot different to £2500.

Have you considered paying someone experienced in Winter / Tidal rivers to skipper her for you (or at least accompany you) ?

You could pay them £500 (or even £1000) for a couple or three days work and still be 'quids in'.

Off top of my head think Newark is £420 , yes I have considered someone else, fortunately my father and his wife are quite experienced but he’s just had major surgery so he’s out of commission for a while. Selfish I thought :)

Not many places left, where’s the boat now? No chance of getting it in a bit further out and sailing her in?
Pete’s suggestion of AWA at Rotherham may work and is worth further investigation and there’s a crane company at Swindon so not too far.

Boat is in Liverpool, what is AWA ? can’t seem to find any info on them. We’ve got Newark in mind as a last resort but don’t really fancy the Trent this Time of year and could use the time better fitting the kitchen.

Do you know where your going? As I say that’s what you need to confirm as there’s only a couple of places where you can go, you may see moorings available but these are moorers that are out getting their boats blacked and will be back in a couple of weeks.

Sorry , yeah I know where I,m going, we have a mooring at Tinsley.

  7. Hi all thanks for the reply’s , I had a run down to Finesse this morning , they have a crane in on the 10th of Nov for multiple lifts but unfortunately we are going to miss this date and we therefore would have to get a crane just for mine at a cost of 2.5k min .

It’s looking like it will be Stanilands so we provisionally booked but I have yet to be advised of an exact cost,

  8. Hi

looking for some help from some of you kind souls if you could.

Our 60 x 11 wide beam is nearing completion and we are looking for a place to have her delivered to and craned in.

We are going to be moored in Sheffield so where would be the best place to have her put into water? , as close to Sheffield as possible.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi @Great Escape,

This above ^^^^^^^^. Something I forgot to mention when we were talking about this last weekend. I've come across several boats overheating on the tidal Trent from inadequate cooling. Peak power is useful. I can think of an instance getting in to Keadby against a strong tide, where I was making maybe 1/2mph progress after turning to stem the tide, prior to turning in to the lock. Definitely worth asking the builder the square footage (or metreage) of skin tank they intend to fit.

    Thanks @Jen-in-Wellies

If you are going to be using the tidal Trent, go for the biggest, as especially at Spring tide times, and in times of flood strong flows, you may well need a bit of extra oomph, just to get you out of a tight corner.

I'm not sure that the builder isnt trying to confuse you as your hp's and engine numbers seem to be a bit mixed up.

    Hi buddy
    Thanks for the reply

Boat builder has been fine tbh, not really tried to sway me in any way ,it’s just the way Canaline name/market their engines…

    Canaline 52 = 52hp

    Canaline 60 = 57hp

    Canaline 70t = 65hp

  11. Hi all

So we’re having a 59’ x 11’ widebeam built and as standard it comes with a Canaline 52 hp engine, I am being advised that I should upgrade to the 60 engine at a cost of £2.5k (Not by the builder) for £3k I could get the Canaline 70hp. My issue is on doing some research it turns out the 60 is only 5hp more than the 52 (57hp) so my questions are..

    1. Would 5hp really make that much difference (Occasionally going on tidal Trent) ?
    2. If more hip is needed would it be worth going the 70 route (Which is actually 65hp) ?
    3. Should I just save my 2.5-3k ?

I would very much appreciate your input

    Thanks in advance

    Message Tracy.

They have a very poor reputation but it would not be a good idea to post facts on a public forum.

Remember Liverpool boats (boat not straight, gunwhales different sizes, bad welds etc) - believe it or not, bad as they were there are worse builders.

You realise it would save a lot of pointless typing if you gave all this information up front? ?

Not pointless, still typed it whether now or earlier ?

(I assume you're aware of how much time and effort you'll spend fitting out before you have something you can live in, but maybe not...)

Absolutely but you’d be surprised where I could live ?

    It was a joke... ?

You won't get a decent new fitted out 58'-60' x 11' widebeam for anywhere close to 120k, you'd have a job getting a Reliant for that price ?

And you'll get a better secondhand one for 120k than for less than 100k...

Should’ve said , I am looking at getting it minus a kitchen or lounge and fitting those myself if new.

Good, you know a lot more than most people who ask the same question then ?

What's your budget? In boats as in everything else you tend to get what you pay for, nicer or newer boats from better builders cost more -- a boat that size could be anywhere from 50k to 200k...

    120k ish
