Hi, you have to to understand that the majority of our gas sales (maybe 95%) were to non boaters who would not buy from us once Fairfax started selling gas In selby as they were cheaper. we maybe only sold two or three bottles a month to boaters, so again this is not viable as a business with storage and insurance costs to hold gas on site. i am sorry that you are inconvenienced by us not selling gas, but we are at the end of the day a business which is there to make money not a charity, and unfortunately gas & diesel sales are no longer a viable business proposition with the demand provided by the traffic on the selby canal. regards Simon

Just to confirm and to avoid doubt, we no longer sell gas, as WE have to buy it from Fairfax as they are the regional supplier. As such it is not financially viable to stock or sell as they will sell it to you at the same price they do to us. In regards to diesel, unfortunately the volume of sales are not present on such a quiet canal. Diesel has a limited storage time, that along with the amount of regulation and reporting imposed by HMRC again no longer make this viable from a business perspective. We do still have a chandlery although much smaller than in previous years, but can still order anything if required. Again due to a change in customer buying habits and most people now preferring to buy online a stand alone chandlery is not viable and with sub 10% margins on many products would hardly cover its own costs. We are still a fully working boatyard offering a full range of specialist engineering services, from full spray painting, blacking, engine servicing, plumbing, heating & electrical work, welding & replating, new builds and refits, in fact anything related to a boat.
