  1. The run from my water tank skin to my pump is a length of garden hose with jubilee clips. Anyone know the best way to fit a stopcock? I've googled but nothing obvious. Thanks.
  2. Anybody ever painted a boat with it? This stuff claims to be primer, undercoat and gloss in one. If something seems too good to be true it usually is. Any thoughts?
  3. Fantastic. Thank you both.
  4. I don't suppose anyone knows the part number...? Thanks.
  5. Thanks guys. Will check that out.
  6. Ouch. The Sterling one is 400 notes and as you say, 5-600 for a 60A victron. Blimey. Why are the 24v ones double the price of 12v? I really can't stretch to half a grand for a battery charger.
  7. Hi there, I'm trying to find a decent 24v battery charger for my domestic bank that I can run off my genny. I've done a search on this forum and on Google, but can't find anything over 15A in 24v. Victron do a 15A, C-Tek do a 14A and Numax do a 12A. Anyone got any ideas/recommendations? Thanks.
  8. Well I'm not going to bicker about it. I think if there was a front loading cassette toilet on the market, boaters would buy it.
  9. Sorry, not sure what you mean? The only place my bog can go is against the hull. It might just about fit against the wall which backs onto the cooker at a pinch. Once plumbed in there's just no way for me to get at the back of a cassette toilet. I think this likely to be true for many boaters.
  10. Indeed. Unfortunately "out the back" for me means through the hull. True, but given the thousands of Portapottis installed in boats I'm sure Thetford are aware of the market. Thinking about it, you can get a floor plate for the new Excellence specifically designed to secure it to boat floors, so they know we're buying. I guess it's a matter of scale - they have a small range & it must cost a lot to launch a new design. But I reckon it would be worth their while. Especially if they marketed it as a boat toilet. A ceramic bowl would be a great idea too... Had a look. They do a flash-looking cassette with a ceramic bowl, but it's a rear-access job.
  11. Aha. I've found it online. That looks in amazing condition for a Victorian stove. If I had the readies right now I'd be sorely tempted by that...
  12. With a ceramic bowl would be even better. Thanks. Hopefully that means there really is one out there...
  13. Whoah! Look at that bad boy! Might have to look into one of those - that is proper tidy. Is it a replica?
  14. Sorry - I did do a search, but couldn't find what I needed. I need a new lav and want to put in something a bit nicer than my old portaloo, not least because I want to sell my boat this summer. There's no way to fit a pump-out (I don't like them but i perceive it as easier to sell a boat with one so would put it in if I could). I like the look of Thetford's cassette toilets, but there's no way for me to be able to get round the back to get the cassette out. So for those that have been through this, what are my options? Does anyone know of a front-loading cassette toilet? I can't find anything online, so I'm not hopeful. Surely this must come up a lot too - Thetford are missing a trick, I reckon. At least they do a slightly better looking and taller portaloo now. Anyone got an Excellence? Any other suggestions welcome. Except maybe "a cork"... Thanks all.
  15. Hi all, I need 4 new brass banjo fittings. The hose to fit them is 10mm internal diameter and the internal diameter of the big ole in the fitting (technical term) is 15mm. Any idea who online might sell such things? Thanks.
  16. It certainly does! Including VAT & Delivery too. Excellent. Thank you both.
  17. No that's cool - thanks for taking the time to post. What you say makes sense. Good point. I'll measure up and come back. Not sure about the make of the old ones except that they're Dutch - they've gone to the tip now, and I'm using a pair of borrowed 110s which aren't really up to the job.
  18. Thanks. All I meant by "quite well looked after" was that they are insulated from the cold and not allowed to be discharged for any length of time. As I said, electrics is not my area of expertise, so it's nice when I can get some constructive advice from the (almost invariably) helpful people on this forum. As this is the first time I've had to replace my cabin batteries, I merely hoped that some of the knowledgeable & experienced posters on here might have recommendations about where the best value places (particularly online) might be to source the most suitable (200aH or above) batteries to replace my dying ones. I don't have a "fixation with names", I just want to buy the best batteries for the job that I can afford. Cheers.
  19. Hmmm, OK. Now I'm a bit lost. Pete - my cabin batteries are trickle charged from 2x 90 watt solar panels, and I charge them as necessary with a 2kw Honda genny through a battery charger. I'm afraid the science of electrics is a bit of an arcane art to me, so I'm not sure what that means in terms of charge voltages etc. Re: cheap batteries, which would be worth considering? Numax? Elecsol? To be honest, the big Trojans don't seem that much more expensive than the big Elecsols, Numaxes etc. Any advice welcome - as you can probably tell, this isn't my area of expertise...
  20. Thanks all. If the Trojan 12v are good I can get a couple for less than 400 quid which is ok. My batteries are quite well looked after, so I guess it's worth getting decent ones. The Dutch ones I'm chucking out have lasted years. Cheers.
  21. Hi there, I know batteries have been done to death on here, but I've just waded through 3 pages of search results and can't find the answer I'm looking for, so please excuse the new OP on the subject. I need to replace my 2 large 200aH deep cycle batteries. I've got a 24v system and limited space for the batteries, so need something about the same size. I looked at the Trojan 6v 225aH batteries but I don't think I can fit 4 of them in the space I've got. So Ideally I need 2x 200aH or above 12v deep cycle batteries, but they seem very expensive. The Victron ones are about £400 each, and I don't have a spare £800 knocking about. The Elecsol ones are better priced, but I've heard they might be a bit crap...? If anyone can recommend a suitable battery & supplier that they've had good experiences with, I'd be very grateful. Thanks.
  22. Hmmm. Never been to this. Is it worth it? My boat's moored at Whitchurch, so it's hardly a slog. Might come along this year...
  23. Ooh, the basket strainer one? That looks good. I'll have to measure me 'ole and see. Thanks Pete - not for the first time with the good advice. Big up ya chest, as the yoof dem seh.
