  2. aye on this count. Thanks for doing your job properly, so many people just go through the motions.
  3. Plugged before on here, but here it is again: http://www.saveourwaterways.org.uk/
  4. Wouldn't suit me... all I get is a blank page and something about missing plug-ins. Content apart, what I like is a decent site map so I can make sure i've looked at all the pages i'm interested in quickly.
  5. wow fantastic , just spent last half hour at least catching up with the last 24 hours worth of postings Work? no I think it all calls for a or three Will inform Camboaters too.
  6. I've just sent this to Camboaters. It should be posted to the group within hours: Quote: This was posted on Nov 2 on canalworld.net 47ft David Piper cruiser stern narrowboat. moored at Braunstone puddle bank for the last 3 weeks. We have been informed it was still there on Tuesday (31st) although we're not sure how credible that information is. It was 'officially' missing Wednesday morning. The boat name is CRAGDALE, this is welded on the stern at water level. It is/was Oxford blue with yellow coachlines on each side. The only other distinguishing thing was the blue polypropolene home-made fenders! Posted Nov 4: It seems the boat may have been seen at Whilton Locks, travelling south, on Wednesday morning. A couple (a male & a female) purchased boat poles, fenders & a tv aerial (all of which would have been needed as ours were all quite distinctive) from the Chandlery & then returned to our boat & continued through the locks. If they turned onto the Nene from there, they could be heading in our direction. Alternatively the boat could have been craned out. However, please keep a look-out! I'm told the really distinctive thing was the welded-on name CRAGDALE. If anyone thinks they have any information, please send me an email and I will pass it on to the owner. I believe the case is being dealt with by Daventry police and their phone number is: 01327 300300. There is a crime number WB245848/06. The investigating officer is PC Peaseland 431. You could also contact them directly. Thank you Amanda Upware Unquote I hope I've got all the information right!
  7. Someone mentioned about alerting the lock-keepers at Salter's Lode and Denver, they would have to go through these to get off the Nene and onto the Middle Levels, Cam, Ouse, etc. I'll alert the local boaters through Camboaters Yahoo group.

  9. Stealing a narrowboat is a minor offence? What about a £20000 yacht? Anyway, emails to MPs are not that useful, what you want is a snail-mail letter. Then they have to open it and respond, emails are too easily ignored, they probably get hundreds a day. Good luck! If it's been sailed away and then lifted out elsewhere, it could be anywhere, so its worth all of us keeping a eye open. If you could post any more pictures that would help us identify it even if it gets painted, please do.

  16. My view is that I take some trouble to try and be polite, if I have something to say that disagrees with another poster. However, there is next to no-one here that I actually know personally, and I hope that no-one would take any of my comments personally, i.e. I am not criticising them, just offering an alternative viewpoint. I think that it's possible to disagree with someone's post without making it personal. Also, if anything I say provokes someone's criticism, well, that person doesn't know me, and even if it sounds a bit abusive, well, I don't have to take it personally. Having said that, it's perhaps a good idea not to just fire off if you want to criticise, but to re-read before the final click, to check that the tone doesn't come over as too offensive.

We joined GOBA (Great Ouse Boating Associaton) but it seems a bit cosy and cruiser-ish for our needs.

  21. If anyone has some personal experience with the clothing products, I'd be interested to know, includinf what the clothing fibres actually are made from and what the impregnating substances are. Do you know whether the midgeater works on mosquitoes too, or is it midge-specific? I'm continuing with the garlic-vitB-marmite-alcohol combination. However with the cooler weather I'm unsure about its effectiveness. Also we have put up some insect-mesh on frames at the door and widow hatches and the opening bits of the portholes. Prevention better than cure!
  22. I've also come across these: http://www.braidbarboats.co.uk/craftsmen/tyler.php http://www.lmbs.co.uk/web%20site/wilson.htm
  23. There is a company which does kits for fitting out your own sailaway. If this is something which is of interest, please pm me as I can give you some information.
