Who else popped in to see poor quality boats.... :) ?

    I thought it said melons.

I was expecting to see boobies.

    Utterly disappointed 😞 😞 😞

  2. I use mine mainly for one pot meals - stews, soups etc.

To stop burning on the bottom if the fire is too hot I sit the dutch oven on a diffuser once it's up to temperature and put a folded towel on the lid.

Thanks for all your replies - ordered one from Amazon - enamelled cast iron. I hope it lasts and works as long as the last one.

Lodge Cast Iron Double Dutch Oven 26cm

    https://www.lakeland.co.uk/72324/lodge-cast-iron-double-dutch-oven-26cm

    £114.99

You may find a Korean Cast iron one for a lot less. Lots on Amazon

It's  cheaper than the Staub La Cocotte 26cm at £319 !!!!!

Like you say - lots on Amazon.

I was just hoping for recommendations from experience of forum members.

I don't mind paying up to, say £100, but ordering blind from the internet I don't want to end up with a thin, low quality item.

We got a cast aluminium one from Robert Dyas that seems to work well, and it's non-stick seems very durable. It seems to have a ground base. Makes lovely stews on a small gas burner set to low, so should be OK on a stove top. Stalactites on underside of the lid to condense any steam and drop it back into the  stew.

    Thanks

I didn't know they were available in aluminium.

    Weld the lid back together?

A bit late now - it went in the bin last week !!!

  5. A question for the hive of knowledge.....

Butter fingers here dropped and broke the lid of my dutch oven.

I got it from my mother who had it for donkey's years.

It was a proper old fashioned cast iron one.

Anyway, I'm looking for a new one.

It's got to be heavy and flat bottomed to use on the top of the woodburner.

    Any suggestions?

Are the modern enamel coated ones any good - or better stick with bare, seasoned cast iron?

Thanks in advance for any advice, suggestions etc.

I have a garden Summerhouse, obviously cold this weather, I ideally I would like to install a small wood-burning stove, not possible at the moment, electricity is not connected, I have been looking at a Zibro Ethanol stove, available through  Wayfair or Amazon. The Amazon one seems to be a Paraffin model where as Wayfair lists Ethanol as the fuel source. Experience with Paraffin is smell and condensation. Ethanol seems to be like meths, both list a flue as 'not required'.

Has any body got any experience of using these fires.......TIA.Zibro+Frankystar+28cm+W+Ethanol+Stove.jp

I use the same heater (paraffin) in my summer house without problems. You get a slight whiff when lighting it - after that no smell at all. I leave a small window open and have 2 CO meters and sleep occasionally there.

I get my fuel from Belgium as it's a lot cheaper than here in The Netherlands. The fuel is called petroleum C here which is a bit more refined compared to paraffin. I used to use a calor gas fire but the Zibro works out much cheaper in fuel.

With adequate ventilation - no condensation at all.

  7. UPDATE

    No reply from Hyundai.

Reply from Ecoflow - try another generator.

It is a grey day today so ran the generator for a few hours.

Charged the lead acids, ran the fridge and tried to charge the Ecoflow - no joy.

Plugged a 500w greenhouse heater in the generator and..............SUCCESS!!!!!!!

    Thanks PeterF 🤪

How did we cope before the internet existed?

  8. Thanks for the reply.

They are not earthed - maybe worth a try.

The Ecoflow does try to charge, then flips out as you say - then it tries again repeatedly.

There are no warning lights on either.

I tried the generator both on low revs and high.

I've also tried altering the charge rate - from 200w to 1200w on the Ecoflow with the same results.

I also have a smart charger for the lead/acid battery bank which works fine from the generator.

I've sent emails to Hyundai and Ecoflow - no replies yet.

  9. Hi guys

I have a Hyundai 2kw suitcase type generator and an Ecoflow 1kw Delta 2 powerstation.

The powerstation charges fine from domestic mains power but won't charge from the generator.

I'm guessing the "pure sinewave" isn't quite pure enough for the powerstation?

I don't really want to change the generator as it's not very old, it's reliable and fairly quiet.

Does anyone know of a "plug in" device that can handle up to 1kw and would clean up the electrickery gremlins from the generator?

So what's *your* suggestion on how to improve insulation and get rid of gas, especially for poorer households?

I would suggest carry on with ICE (it's not too long ago that reserves of oil/gas were found that could keep the world going for another 50 years). Do you really believe all the climate change crap? In the news yesterday was stated this could be the driest July since 190? Because 100 years ago we were all driving Range Rovers?

It gives us 40-50 years time to build a reliable infrastructure/vehicles/boats etc to run on electric/hydrogen or whatever.

If we are to believe the BBC and 40% of households will indeed soon be in fuel poverty, how many households will need a 3rd party to pay for upgraded insulation, larger radiators and a heat pump powerful enough to replace their current fossil fuel consuming boiler?

One of you will know what all of the above might cost, but how could any government fund such an upgrade for 40% of households, or even a proportion of it?

Let The Labour Party back in. I seem to remember they were quite good at spending money they didn't have.😇

My dear Mr Smiler, as we have never met, you will not be aware of my amazing good looks and charm.

Should it become publicly known that I am once again 'on the market', so to speak, my hope would be that the ladies would form an orderly queue, and complete the necessary application forms and interviews.

But I fear they may become desperate, and it can only be a matter of time before one of them kidnaps me.

    Oh, ok sorry.

I read it to mean you would be the kidnapper.

When I'm "back on the market" I will just grab a sheep from the canal bank - I'm not really fussy. 😁

I have to agree.I too get along better with females having spent most of my working life as a musician and teacher.

Blokes can be a real pain. They fart, snore, have smelly feet, are aggresive, don't change their underwear very often, and go to the loo when it's their round.

Being a bloke, I know this to be true.😰

I've met quite a few wimmins that match that description.

    I likes a challenge.😁

    Ok thanks

Hi! I used to have one but problem was emptying it fully with the hose outlet at the bottom

I stand mine on top of 2 beer crates (side by side) and a piece of plywood 80 cm x 50cm on top of the crates to give a good fall into the shower tray and it's very stable.

It was a bodge before, and it's still a bodge.,  I was hoping I could get a proper fitting.

This is the same design as the earlier design, I use that expression loosely.

There is a threaded bolt emerging on the inside, to which some washers and nuts hold a bar,

The bar is supposed to lock the door

    I think you need a better bodge.😁
