  1. Thank you......... at last a constructive post and input that is relative to my initial question ! So, we have already asked the Marina to get us a quote for this connect to shore to do it properly.. By the way OUR BATTERIES ARE FINE !
  2. Chaps - no I am not gone. I am however a bit horrified about how you all make assumptions about things you know nothing about? I asked a specific question in the General Forum about a shore line and potential connections. That was it. I think we are battery covered thank you my hubby is a diesel engineer for 30+ years, original question was about LECKY 240 - Would a RCD be present in the marina ?. The Shoreline - but lets leave that then Thanks for your input Really ? :-)
  3. Crikey don't even start them off is my feeling ! They know nothing about our cruising/mooring etc . Only joined here last week I am off !
  4. Why would they be goosed in a year please? We don't sit in Marina all year around, and we are domestic users. We have solar that keeps them topped up and as of yet we have never seem them drop below 85% - what do you know that we don't ?. And yes we do have a Generator - don't use it
  5. Hi Mross Maybe....... but we have solar that works really well for us and also recently invested in 450 ah of REAL deep cycle traction batteries, proper monitoring system and charge controller so think we are ok there. ;-) Water is our only "thang" at the moment as it is not on demand :-)
  6. Our immersion is in the back wardrobe right at the stern so pretty easy and hopefully not too much disruption. Have asked for a quote - thanks guys
  7. OK got you 100% - windows were not considered (we are not that silly :-) ) and given we were thinking about a 1 hour "pop" to warm up the water we were just asking as 240v novices :-) . Have now spoken to Marina and am having them quote/fit appropriate fitting to attach said to shore. Thanks for input
  8. Hi, When my hubby fitted the new calorifier he intentionally attached a cable to the immersion thinking in the future we may be able to put a blue waterproof shoreline plug onto the end of it and plug it directly into our mobile generator if we wanted to. Now we are on a mooring with a fixed electrical point (that we have to pay for whether we use it or not) it makes sense to consider using it for hot water rather than running the engine and annoying people if we we either want to stay overnight in the marina of get some hot water before cruising.
  9. OK thanks for that. We only just arrived at this new marina. Yesterday was our first day there after the boat was moved on Tuesday. Hubby looked at the point which looked very modern but the RCD question did not pass our mind at the time as we had not thought about the potential to hook up for some water. As I say we don't have 240 volt ! Thanks again
  10. So sorry for your loss of Maisie. I know just how that feels, as do most dog owners xx I lost my bitch Weimaraner last June at almost 13 years old. Still have my boy, but god do they leave a void. Run free princess x
  11. Hi Folks Can someone tell us if the fixed shoreline point that you plug your boat in to a shoreline within the marina has an RCD built in it? I would assume they do being near water? I ask as our boat doesn't have 240v on it at present but the calorifier I installed a while back does have a 1kw immersion heater built in that I could if I wanted put a shoreline plug on to and on the rare occasion we may want to stop overnight in the marina and not have to run the engine to have hot water I could attach it to the marine point that we pay for even though we have never used it - as no 240v on board. I am asking as I don't know whether to purchase a shoreline with an rcd unit on the end of it or a standard one without. We would prefer not to get fried !!!!!
  12. That sounds like Déjà vu from K&A - Every Friday from 3 pm most of the Fox Hangers fleet heading toward bath then returning for early Monday so the whole fleet return on Sunday. Mix that with the same if not more tipping out of Sally Boats at BOA on the same schedule - nightmare. At least from Napton we can get lost on some rings or arms rather than straight up and down with no means of escape.
  13. What I meant was hopefully not all with a four mile stretch gunning it to and from Bath every weekend :-)
  14. Please don't worry guys. We have our own opinions of the K&A having cruised it up and down for the last 4 years. Good and not so good. We are really looking forward to not only a change of scenery but hopefully not as many hire boats in such a confined distance. We are also very lucky in that it takes the same amount of time for us to get to Calcutt from home as it did to Bradford on Avon to our last marina (1 hour 20 min) just the opposite direction. Result........ so a no brainer for us
  15. Yes we are also in Calcutt. Taking a trip back tomorrow to "unpack" everything. Thanks
  16. No def Tuesday and would have been on A34 approx 2pm :-)
  17. Its not nosey at all ! Very good question (I would have asked the same thing). I really did want to cruise there. We have heard about the Folly Inn being excellent so another endorsement Thank you once again PS does upload picture really have to be 0.1MB in size ? I have given up with that :-)
  18. Hi Rog Good question and that was our preferred approach. It was all about timing alas. I really wanted to do the Thames :-( Sadly closure of the flight on Caen Hill, combined with our current marina mooring being up for renewal beginning of March and the unknown unknown of what would be happening on the Thames at this time of year (I am self employed Consultant in IT so I have live clients) - I could not risk being stuck in Abingdon for weeks/months on end trying to get there. Road was much easier solution giventhese factors aka time of year. Thanks for the warm welcome ! Karen
  19. Hi All New here so hi to everyone. We own NB Posset a 40ft stern cruiser After 4 years of cruising up and down the K&A time for a change we thought. Enough of trips to Bath and too many pirates to contend with en route. Had our boat moved to Napton on Tuesday by road. Looking forward to continued adventures on both the Oxford and GU from this base and also it will be nice to get on to some rings for a change. Really looking forward to exploring more of our great canal network. If you see us on your travels this year give us a wave ! Karen
