Thank you. Have edited. Wow.

Really? I don't know anything about this..
-
I have a DB, I don't display index numbers

Hello all, I've received my CRT Licence Disks, but don't like the idea of sticking them to a window using double-sided tape etc. Has anyone found a decent, minimalist holder for them? Cheers Ed
-
Yes, I assumed it wasn't feasible, just interested in where the system becomes narrow (which I think everyone has covered). In regards to your point - my boat is Cat C, so may someday make the trip out of Thames and back into the Humber.

Despite a Google search turning up nothing, a question that has long been on my mind has been whether there were ever plans to widen the connection of Northern and Southern canals for the access of widebeams and dutch barges. Where exactly is the 'pinch point' and what would be required to widen it?
-
Ok, I get it - what was a plan to keep the kayaks in place... I now realise is a bad idea! lol
-
Yeah, I'm not keen on a roof box, but using it to securely mount a couple of kayaks when going up and down the lower, middle Thames would be useful.

I think something like this could work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2008-2013-Toyota-Highlander-OE-Style-Black-Roof-Rack-Side-Rail-/271677606785?hash=item3f413f4b81:g:QzMAAOSwnbZYEb6f&vxp=mtr or this, for a Ford Transit: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRUSHED-ALUMINIUM-ROOF-BARS-RACK-RAILS-SIDE-BAR-SET-SWB-FOR-FORD-TRANSIT-CUSTOM-/200974952235?hash=item2ecb0a672b:m:mTkZTxPR9mXgE_s4Qjzmglg and the other question that comes to mind - attaching aluminium onto the steel... are there any corrosion issues that would need to be considered?
-
Has anyone heard of, or used themselves, a car roof rack on their narrowboat to have a modular system for bikes/kayaks/boxes etc?
-
I couldn't find this by search, so apologies for the likely duplicate thread - is there a way to change my display name?
-
So would it worth me fitting one? I'm docking my dutch barge in a couple of weeks, so would be best time to do it

Hi all, Is it typical to have exposed bow thruster tube? ie. no grill over the open tube to filter debris in seawater. Thanks in advance

It's definitely a multi-fuel Nouvelle. I have 1kw immersion coil for shoreline when in marina, too. Back to the question at hand, anyone see any reason why a glass door would be a bad idea?
-
Yeah, very similar! Good to know someone has already done it. Looks like a pretty safe bet to proceed then - will post photos when done
-
Yes, it's a Nouvelle, Multifuel with backboiler.

Hi all, There is a Rayburn Nouvelle on a boat I'm in the process of buying. I want to replace the solid iron door with one that has a glass window in it, and have found a stove maker who is happy to manufacture one (including some cleaning vanes) Can anyone think of any reason this would be a bad idea? I'm told the thermal properties will be effectively the same. Thanks, Ed

Hello all, I've been active in a few posts already, and thank everyone for their vast knowledge and patient support, but I've held off on introducing myself here because I didn't want to 'jinx' the purchase of a boat and securing a mooring. I'm moving back to the UK in a couple of months, having spent most of my adult life here (Perth, Australia). I decided to move back to the UK for the weather and the beaches. I'll be living at Limehouse Marina, London, which I'm told doesn't have any sharks, crocodiles, dropbears or killer jellyfish - so I'm looking forward to a relaxed lifestyle in which the primary spoken language isn't screaming. Will post photos of my boat when the ink dries! -Ed

That's horrible! Are you at least on tidal?

If someone dumped their "compost" on my front lawn, I would lose my s**t.

Hi all, Can anyone recommend a supplier for roof storage boxes? Thanks, Edward
-
Hi, I'm looking at switching over canister toilets to pumpouts on a dutch barge. Have been recommended Saniplus or Victron. Any recommendations either way on these? I know this will have been talked about previously, but can't find any threads...
-
Ok, an update. Thanks to the many helpful members of this forum, I've decided to purchase a modern replica Dutch Barge. I've found the boat I like, am waiting on some quotes for some minor alterations and then prepared to proceed. The best news of all, and the biggest hindrance to this entire project, is that I got my Limehouse mooring! Sincere thanks to all who helped with this decision. I'll have a great home, one that I can cruise on the Thames up to Oxford, and I can explore the canals in a hire boat, without bringing yet another massive boat onto the congested canals.

I know this isn't the appropriate thread for it, but can someone link me to a thread of choosing a good multi-fuel stove (no boiler) to fit in a 900mm hearth (wood cabinets on both sides)? I want something with big glazing in door to see fire, efficient, fits in that space, and will burn coal or wood. And with airclean (or whatever you call the technology that stops the glass from fouling) and cleanburn (or whatever you call the thing that makes less ash) - you can tell I'm familiar with stoves in Australia, right?

Does anyone know if you can put clear doors on a rayburn to see the wood burning? Google doesn't help.
