  1. It was purchased on Ebay £120, luckily can return it 14 day refund which I shall be doing, thanks to everyone who contributed about this topic/problem, in future will have to do more research before purchasing items, thanks bye
  2. I thought the fans would only come on when the inverter got warm and needed cooling and then run as normal until it required it cooling again, not be a constant running fan noise wasting power.
  3. Hello, I recently bought an Inverter, my 1st one I have owned and the question I would like answered is how long until the fans turn on to cool down the inverter, I have it connected to one of my leisure battery I have for my boat and I plugged into it a led light strip and Usb cable to charge my small tablet, after just 10 mins of use, the fans turn on and run almost constantly even though the inverter is not even warm, is this normal for it to do this ? the reading it says on the inverter is 12.40 when the fan is running. Any help or information would be appreciated Thanks, Mike.
  4. Well thanks to those who have given me info/help. Mike.
  5. Shardlow Marina looks great, will be checking out and see what they got too offer, Thanks Rick
  6. Ok, won't be mooring there then, doesn't meet my requirements lol, thanks.
  7. Is there any Marina's up north, near West Yorkshire, that don't require a licence when moored with them ?
  8. Well there not displaying it on there boats, I guess CRT could check boat reg numbers to find out
  9. Well I have seen boats moored in there that are not licenced and 2 or 3 years out of date
  10. Is Sawley Marina included or not ?
  11. Hello, I would like to know, if I moored unlicensed in a marina for a period of time (winter) could I be fined for it, I have been looking in to it and found this on Waterways World You will still need a cruising licence when you're moored in the marina - well, usually. This is stipulated in the 'Connection Agreement' that the marina signs with the navigation authority, as part of which the marina hands over a cut of your mooring fee. A few marinas (no more than 20 or 30 across the CRT system), however, have their own connections which can't be stopped up, or pre-date these agreements. If moored in one of these, you might be able to save a little money by buying short-term licences whenever you venture out. how do I find these Marina's it mentions above ?
  12. Yes I did think of th Yep lol, did think of this before posting question, never mind, forget it bye.
  13. Hello, I am about to get a narrow boat surveyed on Tues 29th by Blue Star Surveys, by Mike Boulton, do they have a good reputation as a surveyor ? Thanks in advance for any info on them, Mike.
  14. Thanks to all posters, I will take note and use advice/info given in my search for a boat, bye
  15. Thanks for the info, I am at the research stage, and what I gathered so far here is it's the boat, not who sells it is the most important part, I just find it difficult trusting strangers with my money either private or broker and don't wish to make a costly mistake , are there a list of brokers on here that others have used in the past that are trustworthy ? Has for buying privately guess you have to trust the person owns the boat there selling and check any history of the boat if available to view and sales receipt. Thanks, Mike.
  16. Hello, I would like to know about what owners of narrow boats think between buying privately or buying through a boat brokerages, which way is best way to buy a boat ? Any info would be helpful, Thanks.
  17. Yes my Seamaster 23 has a fixed roof over the cockpit, the fridge/small tv use most power, have fixed Led lighting that use less power, but fridge uses most power. in one of your previous posts you said cruising for 8 hours a day should provide sufficient charge but unfortunately that would not be possible, as my younger sister who travels with me has a severely bad back problem and so can only travel at best 4 hours before pain becomes too much for her to continue. As for the power audit figures, I would not at this moment in time be able to give an accurate reading as this is our first long distance trip on the boat. You are also correct in that I asked too different questions but both were aimed towards charging my leisure batteries. I have only owned this boat for a year, so still need some time to get to know it's ins and outs properly, thanks to everyone one has given advice on this subject and I wish everyone happy boating, I will use all the advice given here to decide my next course of action, thank you Mike.
  18. 2 x 180 Ah 12v batteries connected in parallel and it's a wide beam river cruiser at 9"2' so has a decent size cabin roof, as for not disclosing what sort of boat I have before getting help, I originally asked about a small generator to use if it was needed in an emergency if my leisure batteries needed charging and for some reason I had broken down, so did not think that would come into it. Yes & Yes
  19. 2 x 180 Ah 12v batteries connected in parallel would be the correct answer.
  20. Would only be cruising in the summer months so wouldn't matter the rest of the year.
  21. Firstly, may we assume you are a liveaboard - Wrong Quite new at it - correct battery management is actually a really important issue - correct Further £150-ish on a battery charger for it to run - Will do 1) How you know your batteries need to be "topped up"? Do you have some sort of gauge or do you know because the lights go dim? - Gauge 2) What's wrong with running your engine to do it? - Engine needs servicing and some repairs so not running at it's best currently 3) How often do you cruise? Most of the time? A day or two every few days? One day a fortnight? - Currently unknown as just getting boat home, first trip, week to 2 week holidays would be used for. 4) What battery bank do you have now? Make model, capacity and quantity of the batteries please -2 Leisure Batteries 1 starter Battery, Battery Bank 24v, Make Cruiser Seamaster 23 Looking at alternatives if not generator/charger then maybe Solar panels, just want some help/guidance on this issue, thought the users of this forum would know all about this subject owning narrow boats.
  22. Thanks for all the comments, may go the solar panel route instead, what size/power output solar panel would I require for a 24v system to help keep it charged.
  23. So are there any alternatives to this generator that I can use and is around the same price ?
  24. Hello, I was wanting help with finding the correct type generator for keeping leisure batteries toped up while cruising, so don't have to keep starting engine all the time, I have seen this generator Medusa T951 at Toolstation for £118.00 https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p12867?mkwid=sP5Ljqe2r_dc&pcrid=204088985754&pkw=&pmt=&product=12867&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInt_7rpab1QIVzLDtCh06 , would this be the correct type or not, It's my first boat and unsure about this subject, any help would be appreciated, thanks Mike.
