  1. About 40 tons of force i reckon not really it was not too bad just forced a pozi screwdriver on the cap thingy to take pressure off the circlip then released the circlip with a dart tip would you believe it was the only thing i had pointy and strong enough to do the job
  2. Can't find any pics but no worries i don't think the Kort nozzle is for me don't fancy no steering at low speed i have that with outboard engine think i will stick with a rudder but thanks again both
  3. Fudd that sounds interesting but i am confused which doesn't take much lol have you any pics or a name of the rudder type?
  4. Hi All, Hope this helps someone? after dismantling the drain tap/relief valve this is what i found the black bit in the middle is the rubber seal that i prised out it had a wear mark on so i turned it over and pressed it back in which seems to have cured the leak
  5. Hi, Thank you for the reply this is the boat i am thinking of converting if i purchase it? it's a GRP Narrowboat top and bottom so very unique the rear checker plates are fixed and the forward two are the hinged inspection ones. My idea is to fit rails and seating to the rear fixed plates and to route steering the cables away from the front plates all should be doable thank you again for the reply and i repeat you have done a very neat job on Innisfree
  6. Yes that was the post i was referring to but would like to know where the cables were routed and if you are restricted to how many bends/curves are in the cable routing ?
  7. Thanks i will give it a go i have never seen such a small circlip should be fun trying to remove it
  8. Bizzard thanks for that do you mean this O ring i presume there is another inside the valve?
  9. Hi, My Paloma water heater model PH-5-3F has developed a water leak from the drain tap/relief valve does anyone know where i can buy a new valve please? thanks in advance
  10. I agree with Catweazle it does look a really good set up and very tidy i am considering buying a 25ft GRP Trad Stern Narrowboat which is GRP top and bottom my dilemma is that i wanted to make the stern more child friendly and fit some seats see my thread on the general forum titled (Extending the stern on a GRP Narrowboat). Forum member BWM suggested fitting a steering wheel to free up room on the stern and make safer ie no swinging tiller which i had not thought of and your set up looks perfect. I would love to know how you went about converting your boat to this system an idiots guide would be brilliant and i would really appreciate any advice or diagrams you have of how you actually did the job thanks in advance
  11. Thank you again all for the pics so it has been done then but i presume this is a steel hulled boat not a GRP one? BWM that is a very good idea and one i never thought of and one worth considering i think thank you
  12. Because mine in a GRP Cruiser that is GRP Narrowboat and it's an inboard diesel powered and it has no rusting hull worries and it's right next to my boat and it's beautiful
  13. Ian you are right it was me who called it a Semi Trad when in fact it's a Traditional stern doh
  14. Alan i appreciate what your saying and your not telling me how to suck eggs although i was already aware of what you said that is why if i could retro fit a set of seats to the rear of tiller it would overcome the problem
  15. I completely understand what you say but actually didn't think of it like that i think at the end of the day if i can fit a set of seats to the rear ie as a over hang as Alan first suggested i would be happy with that if it didn't look a monstrosity i made it myself job We shall see and you may be right there but as far as seating when the hatch doors are open there is none as you can see in the attached picture there is just a flight of steps Hi All, Thank you for all the suggestions and advice so far please keep them coming as in every idea spurns another
  16. Hi Richard, I have always wanted a Narrowboat it started as a child when i went on my friends dads 70footer at Knowle Solihull i totally agree with you about the Highbridge but the yearning for Narrowboat with an inboard diesel powered chug chug still exists. If my Highbridge was fitted with an inboard diesel perhaps i may not even be wanting a NB but i doubt it the reason i intitally bought the Highbridge was because it was as close to a NB as i could get without the price tag but now i am in the position to buy a NB albeit a GRP one hope this makes sense
  17. Thanks for the pics no probs with the mistake when the chap told me it was all GRP a few months ago i couldn't believe it either i have been on board and inside for a peek! You could not tell it was GRP as its boarded out and very tidy it's only when you look inside the cratch that you notice the GRP fibres in the blue paint as seen here We intend to do exactly that before we take the plunge as it were
  18. It's made by an unknown maker that's all i know? Bee thanks for that
  19. The rust is NOT rust but peeling paint. You are correct they are metal checker plates and the bollards as you call them are in fact bolted to the plates
  20. This boat is not a scam and known to me it IS GRP top and bottom which is what attracts me to it i have searched for GRP narrowboats but they just don't exist my 12 year old grandson is smitten with it and wants me to buy it but it is just the safety bit that concerns me !!
  21. Hi Dave, The boat is GRP top and bottom it is moored buy my Highbridge so i know the boat well it is not advertised and being sold by someone i know for around £10k ish i love the idea of a GRP narrowboat that is why i am so interested in her
  22. Hi Alan, The overhang idea is what i was thinking i am pretty good at fabricating things and welding so i think it may well be within my capabilities but i would dearly love to know if anyone has actually done this to a boat and if there are any pics thanks again
  23. Hi All, I have the chance to buy a GRP Narrowboat the hull and the top are GRP me and the wife really like this boat but the stern deck is a little small ie it's a semi trad are there any companies that could extend the stern of this boat ie to a larger Cruiser stern type ie for seating and making it a little more child friendly etc? I have attached a pic of the said boat which is 25ft if there are any companies that could do such a job or anyone can advise me on how to do this i would probably have a go myself or is this a no no any advice very much appreciated
