Included with all the above precautions a special protective suit is worth while.

Wouldn't be with out my safety suit, toasty warm on these cold nights, bit of a fav with old gits nightly bladder stuff, but brain freeze keeps feet warm, for a while, always look on the brighter side of life!

  2. So I am assuming, and yes I know about assuming, the spotters haven't been tutored in the use of world bing AI, as in:

It's a green Narrow boat, with portals, on a canal @ xxxxx location, give me the name of the owner, the index number, the year it was made, the engine type and serial number, home mooring, the journey plan for it's last trip, do they have large scary dogs on board, when was the last time the toilet cassette was emptied.

And as if, by magic, response:

your device can not connect to the servicer, please try resetting your IP address and re- enter the request again.

    AI's for me for sure!

  3. So my claim to dumbness, arrived at Marina late at night, desperate to get everything out of car into boat and sorted, bags on each arm, carrying two sets of keys, then numbnuts tries to underdo catch zip, without putting any thing down,  how's that ever going to work and it didn't, both sets of keys,  found their way through the decking and into cold and darkness, as they do, eventually saved by magnet fishing. I now have a lanyard!!!!!

This assumes both boats actually have licenses, insurance, BSS and a full service history. Quite a brave assumption I'd say given the standard of maintenance I am seeing in the photos.

Puzzling isn't it? Why would anyone need two boats anyway?

Whichever one he is living on, CRT can surely lift out the other without the rigmarole and delay of getting a court order.

Great point, and when you think of ALL the additional costs of two boats, twice the Licence fees, Insurance, BSS, servicing etc !!!

But it is about 16 hours cruising (Ellesmere to Overwater)

The OP post made a request for a local contact number for a Webasto engineer, alternatively a suggestion for a resource who could provide a service to investigate and potentially fix the issue, Overwater have mobile engineers' and therefore could be a practical solution.

I don't understand how your response helps provide a solution to getting a Webasto issue sorted please explain

  7. The HNC currently has significant CRT maintenance work in progress at lock 26, just above Slaithwaite, it looks like replacement of gates, or work on the lock walls, they also have a dredger and a work boat on site.

The water levels are looking good at Spath Reservoir and the pounds up to Marden, for the first time in a few months.

I haven't seen any boats moving on the HNC for a while, I walk this stretch of the canal several times a week, feel free to PM me if anybody would like an update.

Wherever you are give Lancashire Rotating Electrical a call.  Their courier services is very good, their turnaround is quick,  and their prices are OK.  I have not seen any adverse feedback on here either.

There are various threads on here where Tracy d'Arth has posted their contact no.  I think you can also contact them by e-mail.

Another thumbs up for Lancashire Rotating Electrical, they recently supplied me with a replacement alternator, 70amp, only used for charging engine starter battery. Great service in response to my question regarding connection posts on the alternator body, quick delivery, couldn't find a better price, £130 + £10 delivery from memory.

  10. Not sure the peeps in this decision making process have spotted this yet, but, we are infract an Island, we are surrounded by, you're there ahead of me here,  WATER!

Surely some body, on their trip down to their PC correct holiday to tsea-side, is going have the lightbulb moment and:

    Methods of seawater purification

Desalination can be achieved in a variety of ways.

Vacuum distillation, geothermal desalination, membrane processes (Reverse Osmosis) and even solar desalination are all potential methods that can be used to cleanse and treat water so that it can be drunk, used in industry or for irrigating crops in agriculture.

Water can be desalinated using this water purification process when it has been taken from the sea, or from other saltwater sources and locations.

Even on a small scale, businesses can sometimes put desalination into action on-site if they have the right equipment and processes to be able to do so.

Or maybe, they don't have personal investments in such stuff, in which case, it would be a nogoer.

  11. Hi Tony,

The domestic alternator is a 110 amps, does this configuration of alternators suggest it is the  domestic that is loading the engine, if this is the case, then I cant see any benefit in replacing the current 80 amps alternator with a 90 amps, if as Bizzard suggests, it would increase the load on the belt?

     Thanks

Have you ruled out it being a failed regulator? My recent alternator issue was cured by this easy replacement job - turned out to be a broken brush which is part of the regulator assy. Lancashire Rotating Electrics identified the component and supplied it, so I'd add a+1 to @Tracy D'arth Tracy's recommendation. Fair bit cheaper than a new alternator!

Thanks for your thoughts, the bearing on my alternator is not in good shape, sounding a bit crunchy,  it's a real PITA to remove, so I am going to go for a new unit, I  only want to do this once!!

    Cheers

I'd stick with the 80 or 70 amp if your only charging one battery, less strain on the drive belt.

OK, makes sense, it'll me a 70amp me thinks.

    Thanks

Phone Lancashire Rotating Electricals at Leyland 01772623600  who will be able to identify the alternator, maybe needing a few photos.

Never known them fail. Brilliant firm, reasonable prices, experienced staff.

Hi Tracey, I have contacted these folks, very knowledgeable and helpful. They have offered me two alternators A: 70amp B: 90amp, only about £20 difference between the two. My current alternator is a 80 amp,  it is charging 1 * 12v 110 amp starter battery, no split charger,  occasionally the engine labours for a few minutes when setting off if I have the Sterling inverter/charger on,  in your opinion, is it worth going for the 90amp?

    Thanks

  14. Hi Folks,

I need to replace the starter alternator on Isuzu 42 ingin.

    I currently have fitted a 80 Amp/12v, HMI part number 900021-AIS.

Having done a google search, I cant find a like for like replacement, probably because it has superseded.

Any wisdom from the forum from what others have fitted and supplier details would be great.

    Cheers
