  1. I have yet to discover a sole that is suitable in ALL surface conditions, sadly.

Extreme care, and a pair of water wings might be the best option.

Hope your leg isn't too sore and mends speedily.

  2. I am always astonished when anyone chooses to describe any individual responsible for murder, bombings, and similar atrocities, by reference to their religion, colour or nationality. Surely the only significant descriptions are terrorist or murderer.

Perhaps this is one (of the many) issues Trump has horribly wrong.

  3. Surely this is just over complicating things.

If you have a licence, you may navigate the system to your hearts content (within the rules for mooring).

If you have a fixed mooring you may remain stationary on the mooring for the period of that mooring.

Having a fixed mooring doesn't prohibit one from cruising.

For nine months every year I am a continuous cruiser, with no fixed paid for mooring.

For three months I take a mooring so I can leave the boat whilst I work.

Obviously there would be little point paying for a mooring if I was to continue to navigate the system, or a particular location, within the rules of my licence. A licence is required by everyone, but a mooring is required only by those who choose not to, or are unable to, navigate.

    Am I missing something ?

  4. So where is the material causing the blockage now? I'm imagining it is resting on top of the stove baffle plate and still partially blocking the passage of combustion products up the chimney.

The thing about solid fuel stoves peeps don't appreciate is they produce CO in vast quantities. Any gas appliance producing the concentration of CO that is normal for a solid fuel stove would be condemned instantly.

A CO level of say, 500ppm (parts per million) would be considered dangerously high for a gas appliance. Even 50ppm would be looked at twice. A Squirrel stove running well is producing so much CO that my professional gas analyser goes off the scale (at 3,000ppm) immediately and shuts itself down to protect the sensor when I stick the collector probe into the space over the coals.

Flue spillage from a coal stove is FAR more serious than from a gas appliance.

Why don't I know clever stuff like that.

    Wish I was brainy.

  5. Great article, EF. Interesting to note that those opening hours are still true now!

I'll just DO that on behalf of the forum. Mrs Loafer and I always give them a card anyway, so an extra one is no issue. we'll sign it on behalf of CWDF and post their reaction back here.

They'll probably just ignore it and leave it standing at the bar :)

  6. Glad to be reading your report of what happened, rather than someone elses's :)

Thank you for the timely reminder and information. It can be too easy to slip into

a casual, relaxed attitude regarding these things.

Hope you have no further trouble.

  7. Been using one (Necvox) for several years. We cruise and have never failed to get a picture when required.

We have found that when no picture is readily available, moving the aerial, even as little as a yard, will make

a difference. In extremis (when my wife wishes to watch University Challenge and Only Connect) we have

learnt to stand the aerial on top of the watering can (it is magnetic) and occasionally also on top of the ash pan.

The extra height seems to work on the very rare occasions it proves necessary.

I do accept however, we watch very little tv.

    I would highly recommend Necvox.
