You didn't say, but I guess you're quite excited.
Hope you are as happy as us.

An excellent analogy above.
So it appears the art project has establishment support and sponsorship, C&RT have approved the lengthy mooring time to accommodate maximum exposure, and the artists themselves have visited here to explain their situation.
I love a happy ending

See....
I said it wasn't unknown for me to miss something.
I'm not always wrong but I'm wrong again!
I would therefore hope that the projects mooring plans have been authorised by C&RT.

Stands back to be corrected

Unless I have missed something (which I have to accept is not unknown)
It has not been established if the boats have actually overstayed
It has not been established whether C&RT have actually authorised the mooring/overstay
Whilst I have no doubt the project is aimed at women, I would anticipate that, if it has any value, I may have benefited from a visit.
Unfortunately I have never been in the right area at the right time to visit the other section of the project, and a performance by Dr Kate Saffin.
One day maybe.

I don't know the location so won't comment.
But I quite like the idea of arts projects being supported and made accessible around the country.
I also like poetry and art around locks and many other places.
If I was in the area I'd go and have a look, and not judge from afar.

The only way for pins to be utilised.
They're intended to keep the boat in one place.
I bet they do the job now you've done your good deed

I suppose we shouldn't be too hard on the man,
Halsall's only a little boat and easy to miss !

That's what always terrifies me on the Thames !
And sometimes there's gazillions of 'em in one boat going at about 500mph.

PS I may have used a tad of poetic licence in the above post

As always with thin ends of wedges, the concern is when neighbours see what he has achieved, it will eventually turn into two boat-lengths, then three, then ten, then probably NO MOORING at all.
Or the old guy will become less able to patrol, and the whole thing is forgotten as everyone gets on with living. It's just a phase.

Would it create a huge problem if we just avoided mooring outside his home ?
As a general rule I try to avoid mooring by houses so as not to irritate or annoy anyone, plus I don't have to be concerned that my every move may be being observed.
Surely one boat length left unoccupied on the Grand Union is not going to create an issue. Just as a courtesy.

What I want to know is where do they all go to the toilet, I passed a match with about 200 fishermen on the Shroppie last month, no pubs for miles.
They utilise the 'bucket and chuckit' method
without the bucket.

Reminds me having been around folk clubs in that era,
Mike Elliot was really funny too.

Now at Foxton.
The only very shallow stretch we encountered was the pound between locks 26 (Bottom Half Mile lock) and 25 (Top Half Mile lock).
Coincidentally, this pound has the eco type bank work, using a membrane and fencing type posts. I assume this is connected to the area being designated SSSI.
We were advised whilst on our journey, that C&RT staff had been in the area adjusting levels, obviously reacting to earlier reports of problems.

The first may be in a process of being altered, windows added etc.
There's no reason to assume either won't be used perfectly legally.
Someone is going love them.

Well done.
Terrific imagination to create a thing of beauty.
Your faces must ache horribly now, from the permanent grins as you look around. Thanks for sharing.

I like the variety, assuming they're a fit for the location they're in.

If I'm honest, I don't really care what other people do apart from when boats approach locks with fenders down. It then affects everyone if they get jammed and slow everyone down.
However the fender down permanently situation always reminds me of people who put up extravagant external christmas decorations on their homes, and then leave them all year presumably to save them the job of taking them down and putting them back up next time.
I have also on occasion idly pondered what it is they expect to hit with the side of their boat.

But the moorings ARE cheaper than most marinas.
Some individuals may enjoy the opportunity to remain in one spot legitimately, and feel the price is worth it for the peace of mind.
The moorings are optional so I don't see how C&RT can be accused of 'ripping off' anyone.

We're at Kilby Bridge, and will report on water levels as we travel towards Foxton, but we have experienced no problems thus far.

Surely with a reasonable amount of care, and focus on the job in hand, any boat with any crew can pass safely through any lock without incident. After all they've being doing exactly that for over 200 years.
Calls for some form of safety licensing would not prevent accidents due to crew error or carelessness, and would therefore gain nothing but creating a layer of bureaucracy.
Seeing these unfortunate incidents will hopefully keep us all safer by raising awareness and diminishing complacency and casualness.
But they are hard to watch.

You see, I thought this post was going to be about the lack of an elsan at Ellesmere Port.

It's our first time as we've not been inclined to do the Trent section.
However in the fine dry weather we've enjoyed, it's been terrific.
I still prefer canals (in a canal boat) but it is a lovely trip we'll do again. Loughborough was a pleasant surprise, Birstall is jolly nice, and Leicester is fabulous.
Hope you enjoy your trip.

As we are considering doing the Leicester Ring, where abouts is the Friars Mill moorings...?
Between bridge 4 Soar Lane Bridge and bridge 3 West Bridge.
Friars Mill is marked in my Nicholsons. Quite close to the Castle Gardens moorings.

We love visiting Manchester and have stayed in Castlefield several times in the past, on one occasion for 5 nights.
The rules are now being enforced, and if we wish to do that again, we will have to buy a weeks licence. So be it.
People buy Thames licences and Avon licences every year without a murmur.
Is it just the change in enforcement people object to ?
