have just acquired a second hand boat and there is a definite list to port- someone has suggested removing some ballast from the starboard side- anyone ever done this, any ideas as to which part of the floor to remove?

have acquired a boat and the roof is essentially non slip. There are parts that have been masked off and left without a non slip. Am told that sand has been used to make the non slip parts. Its has a no of spots (some large) that have cracked, chipped my question is do I need to rub off all of the non slip or can I simply paint over the the worn bits and then add sand to those only. Do I have to take all of the non slip off or can I effectively patch up? We intend to repaint the whole roof a new colour and keep the same non slip areas that are there now.

any idea where I can acquire a manual from, tried Isuzu dealers but they say they are no longer available as the engine is 10 years old

went into Halfords to get some ATF oil- of course there are so many types- anyone know which spec. oil to get?

my tiller handle is very loose when fitted onto the tiller- the end of the tiller is simply not large enough in diameter- how can I make the diameter larger?

it was the filler I a bit confused with but P38 seems to do fit the bill, thought there may be something special for the roof

just taken over a boat and there s a patch on the roof about 2 inches square that is badly rusted and pitted, may need some form of filler. What should I use?

many thanks for all the replies, rang Newgate PRM this morning- most helpful. They stated that the clunk is quite common in this type of box and due to the inertia of the box before engaging- told to make sure oil was correct type, ATF, and to make sure it was not overfilled which he says is often a problem. Only 0.7 litres required. Shall change oil and see what happens-thanks again

How do I remove some old vinyl name lettering from the boat sides, tried to pull it off but seems well stuck!

taking over a boat next week and wife most concerned to thoroughly clean the Vetus toilet 12v- can someone please tell me the correct stuff to use- will Ecover cleaning liquid do or do we need something like Sealand Many thanks

in the throes of buying a boat an assume owner shi p in net few days. For some reason \ Maxview Gazelle aerial is mounted on a block of wood about 3inches all round. This seems to be stuck on with mastic and rust is all around this and its badly blistered. Intend to have the boat painted next season but would like to scrape these bad rust spots off and temporary repair for over wintering. Was intending to sand down and apply Hammerite just for the winter- does that seems ok or can I just apply a primer?

strongly suspect that ordinary engine oil was used in the gearbox, the manual for the gearbox states to use API CC grade oil- is that the same at ATF?

just buying the boat and will not be back at it until Sunday 1st but will find out if it does it in reverse- grateful for all the responses- its in Wakefield- any idea of a place who may be able to look at it if it needs service/repair etc?

away from the boat at the moment so cannot answer re oil but the owners manual states the gear should engage smoothly and without a clunk

have an Isuzu Marine IM4LB33 engine with a Newage PRM 120D2 gearbox. The gear only engages at about 800rpm and then with a distinct clunk. Any idea why and who can rectify it?

anyone any idea if there is a length limit on narrowboats to get to to this canal and the marina in Ripon?
