Laurence, what remains of the Gilpins Arm? The only thing I have ever noticed is the stone plaques on the cottages on Norton Road.
-
The building was used as a canoe club years ago.
It should be possible to get a vehicle across the bridge, but the access is across common land.
Lovely little building on what I think is the prettiest part of the BCN.
-
There's a small park on the Soho Loop.
-
I'd have thought that the bow styling made them instantly recognisable, to be honest, though I agree that the Tamworth touch is in keeping with the old ways.
Carl is right too, those that care do indeed know. Despite having " Norton Canes Boatbuilders" in 7" letters on Resolutes cabin sides, I'm still sometimes sometimes asked
" Lovely boat.....is it a Hudson ? " .....I'll say no more!!
Cheers
Dave
Dave,
Someone once tried to tell me that Resolute was a Denis Cooper...
-
Also good for a "spot the forum member" competition - loads of them in there - whole boatoads sometimes!
I'll start, here's a spot of Tiggers, FadetoScarlet and BlackIbis.

They are both motors, so I guess "Laurel" has never been paired with "Hardy".....
(Coat!)
How very odd for something like this to be with ABNB?
Laurel was owned for many years by Alan Smith, who died recently. I also believe Alan owned the rights to the Fellows Morton and Clayton name. His son Paul owns ABNB.

I do like Lampreys cabin varnish
Richard
-
Lamprey is already there, we arrived late Sunday afternoon.
-
As long as I can remember Braunston has always been the last weekend in June.
-
Lamprey will be somewhere near the junction or down the Cannock Extension with the other historic boats. I'm leaving mine after work on Friday, going down to Catshill to wind (via Tesco for liquid ballast) and then back to Pelsall.
-
This happened to me when I tried it for the first time, I found that the best thing to do is bush the scumble on then immediately wipe it off again with a rag, then brush the scumble back on and grain. Worked for me.
-
I had an e-mail from Dave on 30th May thanking me for booking my boat in and giving some general details for the weekend.

A modern boat built to 6'10" with vertical sides will have no problems at all assuming that they're built straight! That's how we build them.
Most canals were built to accommodate boats that are over 7' wide and there are many working boats at this width that have no problem whatsoever.
-
I'm not sure bow hauling would be within the rules whilst taking a break?
And I hope you slowed down as you passed Lamprey!
-
We've had an enforced 30 minute break as we've broken down.
-
Canis Major is now in place, though we seem to have decided on the same starting point as Muskrat. 8am may be interesting...
-
We've got a late entry...Team Canis Major. The team is made up of myself, Tiggers and two none forum members, Tim and Jon. Jon runs Great Haywood Marine Services and Tim is joining us late on Saturday after he has attended a beer festival.
The team only came together this afternoon, so we're in for a coupe of days of serious route planning. -
I'm glad you've asked this. I was looking for black gloss high temp paint today, but could only find matt.
-
Josher with a forecabin. From looking at the name panel it may say Perch?
-
I used an electric carving knife, it cut through the mattress very easily and neatly.
-
Get the hull gritblasted and 2-packed.

He thinks it may be of his which he described as a Neales No.2.
I'm not sure of the age, I just know we've had it a very long time.
-
intriguing that the latest bronze is described as 'Neales no 2'
it looks to me like a Boatmans cabin lock key as discussed previously.
I guess Laurence Hogg would know.
I asked Laurence what it was and he said it was a Neales No. 2.
