  1. The collar on the top gate had snapped and the gate couldn't be opened. I reported it to CRT, told them exactly what it was and they were out within half an hour with all the right kit and spares, all sorted and open after an hour and a half:

    Great job.

  2. London Canal Museum is the proud owner of a 1932 9hp Bolinder which is on display in our galleries. We're refurbishing our exhibits about the boats and cargoes of the Regent's Canal and would like visitors to 'experience' the distinctive sound of this iconic engine. Does anyone have one on their boat, who would be happy for us to make a sound recording of it in action? We're happy to travel anywhere in the UK to do the recording and would acknowledge our thanks to you as the owner in our exhibit. Any help or leads would be great.

Not in a boat, but we've had this running in the car park.

  3. Thanks for posting Alan, it's interesting to compare Sickle with Theophilus, which we currently have in the shed, as we're replacing V bottom.

not something new.. they ( the rounded chines) were present on the Royalties years before (1932?)

..worth noting too that the middles also had V bottoms ... so cant be docked with out the right supports in place first! (I imagon its a right paint to sit 'em right when docking too... its not easy with Spey, and all we have to deal with is where she is length ways!

Jason, we had Tycho on the dry dock recently and pulled Theophilus up the slip, neither required supports as the V bottoms are incredibly shallow.

  4. We've got the CRT chaps in Glascote Basin at the moment as they are using our site to keep their welfare unit and for parking. Yesterday the site foreman came to tell me that the top lock will be open on Friday, but there is a new stoppage now on the bottom lock that will start on 22nd Feb and run for two weeks.

  5. Sorry, we needed to get away so that we could get the boat back to Alvecote, we managed to get down Aston that evening. Hopefully we will see you around somewhere, maybe Braunston?

Is there a list somewhere of previous winners of the challenge? It would be quite interesting to see.

  6. Very pleased with that result, we found it a lot harder going this year with levels off on the Wyrley and the Rushall. We didn't quite cover the ground that we did last year, but I am guessing other teams didn't either.

Well done to everyone taking part, I am especially pleased to see a Norton Canes in the top 10!

  7. Hi All,

I'm currently advertising Kookaburra, it's a great boat. We originally built it for a director of Tescos and it was one of those boats that was built using the best of everything. The quality of the woodwork is just superb and the shell has great lines.

There is no problem with the bathroom layout at all, it's just that the current owner prefers a cassette to a pumpout. The cassette is included in the sale, so the new owner can have the choice too. smile.png
