    I presume talking about RCR rather than the engine the OP mentioned?

If I'm allowed to slightly hijack the thread, I have a Patio Gas cylinder marked "13 kG Propane" which has a built-in gauge, currently reading "Hi" [the alternative end of the scale is "Lo"] - (I don't know if the smaller cylinders are the same, but this Patio Gas had a weird regulator with a knob which on first activation clamps the regulator to the cylinder and on the second turns the gas on - there is no manual valve on the cylinder)

     

    The BBQ went to the great kitchen in the sky last month - If a boater in the Wolverton area wants the cylinder - it's free, and I want to get rid. I can deliver (say) between Fenny Lock (or Willowbridge marina) and Cosgrove - ish; if close by, please ask.

  4. Not quite off topic. Many years ago, I nearly wrote off our Isuzu 3.1 TD Short Wheelbase. At the time, I subscribed to the disconnect battery "myth". We talked a local garage into fixing the (rear end shunt) damage for less than the insurance write off cost, and they did a wonderful job.

     

    When I picked the car up, I thought "attention to detail" - they have set the clock after disconnecting the battery

     

    On the way home, I turned the radio on - it wasn't locked; and was still on Radio 2. I checked - "no sir, we don't bother disconnecting the battery, if you do the job right it makes no difference".

  5. Apologies for what must seem like slow progress - I'm staggered by the response on this forum...

     

    I've updated around 200 titles (and moved many images) from the original 1,100 or so. Anyone visiting Ian's Archive can see where we've got to.

     

    Having said that, I'm only up to comments (whether by email, on my website or on this forum) up to Monday 14th August... Five days to go - by which time more comments will have arrived. (If it seems slow, I'm also keeping a spreadsheet of who commented what and when so If I get two comments on the same image I can quickly cross reference)

     

    And I understand @magpie patrick is heading home with another 3,000+ slides for scanning - watch this space.

    100207 - I can't see a name except part of "way out" and what might be "ladies". On the other hand, there can't be too many British stations where the entire platform is so low they provide multiple sets of steps for passengers!

  10. Many thanks all - I've added all the comments given via my website and am now working through comments on this forum. Well over 100 comments (with some duplicates) for 1,000 images. Much appreciated - we'll hit you with the next 1,000 images soon...

     

    (some delay was caused by "reversing" or "flipping" images - it's by far the slowest part of the process and caches of the "unflipped" version get everywhere!)

    I'm still ploughing through the above suggestions (plus others who have made comments on my site)

     

    When I've finished I'd welcome an introduction to railforums.co.uk - I thank you for your offer of posting but don't want to saddle you with copying back 40 odd responses as with CWF! - on the other hand I don't want to be a "new member" waiting for someone to approve my post...

    This morning - I'll collate all the comments and move / caption / flip as required.

     

    As @magpie patrick some are in the wrong album simply because I have not got round to it yet - others; I started with a relatively simple structure then "fiddled" as I started to populate it. For example, I started with two folders "canal" and "river" which became three with the addition of "craft" (and became subfolders of "waterways"), four with the addition of "posters and exhibits" and then "canal" became "UK canal", "river" became "UK river" and added "Overseas" (as the distinction [at least to me] is much less clear cut on the continent). That's how I ended up with some overseas images in the wrong folder...

    Dad left random box's of slides - it's quite possible he'd moved two images of (roughly) the same location together for the purposes of a lecture.

     

    (part of the reason we have this fun and games - it would be so easy if adjacent images were actually from the same roll!)

  14. Can you identify this photo (and over a thousand like it...)?

     

    Many of you will have known, or know of, Magpie the Elder, AKA Ian Moss. Father to myself and @magpie patrick

     

    Ian passed away in late 2022. He left us around 50,000 slides, most of which were devoted to Waterway and Railway history. They date from the mid 1950's to the late 2010's (he went into a care home January 2020 and was losing mobility before that)

     

    Fortunately (for him) and unfortunately (for us) his memory was excellent and detailed; two years after he went into care (and since he last saw his home) he was preparing for a lecture and "get me box 384, brown leatherette, and box 683, green, vinyl, probably in the study. And 772, grey slide carrier". But no written (or computer) notes of what was in what.

     

    So, @magpie patrick and I have a mammoth task ahead of identifying places, buildings, boats etc, so we can put Magpie the Elder's Archive where it can do most good. We've scanned the first 1,000 slides and hope to have another 4,000 by Christmas (only 45,000 to go then!) and put them online.

     

    Please have a look at Ian Moss Archive; if (as many will be on this forum) you are only interested in Waterways go to Ian Moss Waterways - genuinely, any hints on location, boats, date, history are welcome. Either use the comment facility on the site or reply here but please, if replying here, include the photo ID (six digit number beginning with a "1" and with an "E" on the end)

     

    Thanks (in advance) - and if anyone knows a rail version of CWF, please let me know!
