  1. Thanks Pete, My info from the Hinckley health register of boats came from an email i had from Moira Furnace. It was all they could find on Bird family. Thanks for clearing things up for me. Regards Sam

  3. Hi Just wondering if anyone one knows what happened to the boats Alma and Baladava. Both of these boats were registered on the 20th may 1879...owned by Moira Colliery co...Route Taken: Hinckley/Coventry and Moira..... Cargo Carried Coal. The steerer of both these boats was a Henry Bird he was also named as the steerer of Yelverton and Arrogant boats also belonging to Moira Canal Co. Yelverton was broken up sometime after 1882 by w.w. cooper i believe. Arrogant was broken up on the 13th Jan 1920. The record i have for this info says that Alma and Baladava were ???? at dock 8th Jan 1920 not likely to work again. Thanks in advance

  7. Looking for any information on my 4th grandfather Joseph Bird bn 1811 Ashby de la Zouch , married to Catherine Hogg bn 1805 measham, He was a canal boatman on the ashby canal from about 1851. Also any info on his brothers and father who were also canal boatmen.   13. My other 3X Great Grandfather Henry Green bn 1832 was the Master of California in 1881, his son Joseph Green died during the canal strikes in 1923 in Brunston. Thanks Samantha
  14. hi, My 3x Greatfather Phillip John James was the master of the boat Britannia,,,he was bn in 1834 and died in 1919... the boat was reg birmingham 19/2/1879 bcn no:4431gjc no: 9506. The other 3 boats i have less info for but again are linked to my family at around the same period of time. Samantha
