Weld or bold a bigger pulley to the front of the original crank pulley and move the alternator forward
it would need a bit of engineering and balancing

Could it have a head gasket blowing into the water jacket ? Then blowing the water out the header tank . As the engine cools it draws the water back out the header tank ?

The OP can clarify what his boat has, but usually there are hardwood frames on the inside, then tongue & groove planking, then originally masonite sheet, which the OP has replaced with buffalo board.
Ok I will leave it to people that know as I said it was only my idea 👍

So am I miss understanding I though there was wood planks then framing and buffalo board on the out side

Just a idea how about drilling holes in the outside panels and having polystyrene ball’s sprayed in or foam
then plug the holes in the panels
this is only my idea so ask around before doing it

Many years ago I made a extended handle that slipped over the original by about 300mm.
then reduced down to the same size as the original brass one and fitted a wood handle on the end.
it was made off aluminium so nice and light and nice to use.
when I came to a tight corners I slipped it of until on the straight again
