  1. Hi all it's just over a week before we start the Leicester ring so i would like to ask if anyone could give us tips on where to visit and where to stop / not stop on a night

Is there any problems with the river section that would stop us and hold us up

Also what is the best pub's to visit for meals and DRINKS

we have 14 days to do it is this long enough ?

  2. Hi All

I hope all is well in 5 weeks as we are going that way

How often does the gauge go in the red and how long does it take for the water to go down before you can pass though .

Its our first time on the Leicesters ring

    Thanks

  3. I hope the boat we have hired this year is better then the one in the photos i will be very upset if its not .

we have paid a lot of money for two weeks [ its not the same company as in the photos ]

When we hire, we like to look after the boat like it is ours so the out side is just as important as the looks inside

We have also hired from Diamond Resorts and there boats are first class or was 3 years ago

  4. Hi all. We're doing the Leicester Ring this year as well - 1st 2 weeks in June. Is it best to push through Leicester itself? We were hoping to stop & have a wander round the town but having 2nd thoughts now!

  5. Off shore wind farms look OK, even on shore ones do too.

    I don't understand your problem?

    Care to expand?

Yes they do look good but when they are putting them up just down the road there not so nice with the blades making a noise

if you like them you can have the ones down the road from us before they put them up ninja.gifhug.gif

  6. Yes them windmills will look lovely all over the hull area. They have plans to splat them where ever they can i bet .construction.gif

Great for us that live in Kingston upon Hull nothelp.gif

And i bet not many people that come from Hull get jobs working for them

But great for the rest of the country clapping.gif

  7. Hi all

can i just say we have hired from Chas Hardern boats 2 times and we have been narrow boating for about 10 years .

Both times we hired we got the full treatment of showing us where every thing is / goes and safety things ie gas taps etc + how the toilet worked clapping.gif

The first time hired we got the winding hole and lock check to see if we were safe and understand everything

And we will be using them another time in the future all been well

  8. That looks ridiculous all they had to do is put a strap though two windows at the front sides and up to a chain winch off a steel girder and lift the boat as they let the water in very very slow Plus pump the water out the boat at the same time

  9. In my eyes the best bit of going through Leicester on the rivers and the canal is when heading out at either end, I went out that way August Bank Hol weekend for a week, and not only did i think the water`s was disgusting strewn with rubbish the towpaths littered too but i pushed to not to stop in or around Leicester as both myself on my boat and my friend on his boat felt intimidated by the people around the canals rivers and the locks.

Sorry to drag a oldish post up we are doing the Leicester ring this year and just wondered if it had improved at all ?

The above posts puts you off a bit is it only going though Leicester that is a bit rough ?

    Thanks

    Graham

  10. Hi,

The first time we hired a boat from Anderton we went to Chester then on to Chester zoo It was a fantastic week this was about 10 years ago.

Last year we did the same but moored in Chester for 2 night and got a taxi to the zoo because we where told the turning winding hole after the zoo had gone

Someone on here may know other wise about the winding hole closing

    Graham

PS Chester is a very very nice town to look around
