Anyone have experience of cat liveaboard
Simon clarke replied to Simon clarke's topic in Living Afloat
They are both spade. Don't wander far just in garden. More concerned they might get lost if going to new moorings. They love my dog, and she loves them! -
Does anyone have a cat or cats living aboard? How do they cope with cruising and would you advise against it. Thanks

Thanks for your donations and support. I have a someone going to help me with a beb page and will be updating it on a regular basis. Will also be taking gps and hope to set up some sort of live tracking. Promotional material being sent by GOSH even as I write this. Your advice has been noted and appeciated.

Thankyou Lorraine XXX I get confused myself. lol On facebook I'm simon clarke and sometimes I register on a website using facebook and this defaults to simon clarke. My real name is Mike Gibbins. I am suspicious of facebook, guess it's my paranoia and age or perhaps I read to many conspiracy stories.

Firstly,Forgive me if you think I should not be posting this here. If that is the case then just click on something else. My name is Mike and my dog is Roxy.Next summer we will be kayaking together around the coast of England. Here is a link from last summer where we kayaked from Bournemouth to Totnes and back. This clip is where we went around Portland Bill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lPfgpMfTNE We have set what I've been told is an impossible amount to raise of 100,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Now I know that as a group, boat people of whatever type are the most generous, and I'm hoping some of you will kick start my campaign. If you can just spare anything to get it underway it would be greatly appreciated. I will be paying for everything myself so your donations will go in full to GOSH. So Everybody please, please, if you can give me and the charity a leg up. The link at the bottom of this post is my just giving page.Thank you for reading this and even if you cannot help finacially then please copy and paste my link and publisize it on any websites or facebook or twitter. The challange starts mid april or early May depending on the weather. Thankyou for your help https://www.justgiving.com/mike-gibbinsandRoxy

Difference between propane and butane
Simon clarke replied to Simon clarke's topic in Boat Equipment
Propane it is then. Thanks for the replies. -
Of course which is why I am asking questions to gain knowledge. The more questions I ask on here the less of the learning curve out there.

Difference between propane and butane
Simon clarke replied to Simon clarke's topic in Boat Equipment
Would it make sense to use propane in the winter and butane in the summer, or is it different types of equipment you have to use? -
What is the difference and what is best to use on a boat, for cooking and heating?

To avoid confusion the boat is at Chorley. I know I can't get to Bournemout that is why I put in my original post, the Kennet and Avon canal. She would be suitable for a coastal passage as she is a seagoing boat not a canal or river boat. See is about 7' wide.

Does this mean kayaks are allowed? I'm a kayaker.

Thankyou so much! Brilliant link.

I have bought a boat which at the moment is on a canal in Bolton. I need to move it to the South, probably the Kennet and Avon Canal somewhere between Bristol and Hungerford. I am in Bournemouth so I think that is as far South as I can get it without a coastal passage which I don't fancy doing until I can give her a good once over. I am thinking of doing this mid to late January or early February. What route would you suggest I take? I have plenty of experience of the sea but hardly any off rivers and canals.

I was under the impression first and foremost all vessels have a duty to avoid collisions regardless of who has right of way. The tanker was in a channel which left him with very little room for manouvre. The only vessel which could in this instance avoid the collision was the sailing boat. Don't know why he wasted the money by not pleading guilty. That was not just taking a risk, it was stupid too.

Online map showing electric hook up points?
Simon clarke replied to brian1042's topic in General Boating
Not very many. OK, thanks for replies -
Yes. On public moorings where you could stay for 24 hours, then had to move on . The mooring was free as well.

I went on a boating holiday on the Norfolk Broads a couple of weeks ago. Some of the public moorings had shore power. There was also a map available showing where these moorings were. Is there similiar facilities on the other waterways run by the Canal and Rivers Trust and any maps showing locations? Thanks

It has no headlining at present. I'm just thinking in jan will be very cold and don't want to freeze to death. I can take four seasons sleeping bag so should vbe alright at night. Just to keep warm in evening. Can't really think of another option unless portable wood burner but would that be risky and could I vent it out of a window? I'm new to this so if I appear stupid I'm sorry. They are based just up the road from me, might be worth going to see them. What about the condensation? Howdo you find that?

I just bought this boat. I intend to move it from Bolton to the Kennet and Avon canel in early Jan. I know it's not a narrow boat but members on this site seem to have a collective wisdom and may be able to advise me. It does not have an inboard engine so will use a 9.9 4 stroke outboard. What would you suggest is my best option for heating? Sorry I can't see how to attach picture so I have put in this link. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Loftus-Bennet-23-ft-Canal-and-River-boat-/121204505619?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=Dj5%252Bi294%252B9p56pciYSqosb%252FQWlQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc Thanks
