Had my renewal from them today. Also 57' but mine's 8 years old. Mine's £10.70 pcm, down this year from £14.22 last.

I didnt think the 20 years old sounded right, so i got in touch with vikings afloat and it turns out my boat is only 14 years old.

I hate them I never wanted one but there was one on the Hudson I bought. It reinforced my sentiments that they are absolutely awful. If you need more space buy a bigger boat if your boat is already full length then buy a widebeam :D I don't have one on this boat, what a joy. DONT do it.

You dont like much do you....

  4. They had an outing on the Ashby a few weeks ago, i cruised past on tick over, cup of tea in one hand, big fat bacon and egg sarnie in the other, saying hello to each one...

You could see the hatred in their eyes as they grumbled back and lifted their poles out the water.

  5. I am all for standing my ground and telling the maggot fiddlers to sling it, but only if i was going to be aboard my boat all day, i remember a tweet a couple of years ago where a boat got painted with some choice words down the side, allegedly by a maggot fiddler not happy as the boat was in his spot..

  6. I cook a bit on mine, i found you need to create an air gap between pot and stove, otherwise the bottom of the pot gets to hot and burns the food.

I use a standard ceramic casserole dish with lid, then put some steel/metal bars under it to lift an inch, it slows down the cooking also, as direct will cook quite quickly if your fire is high.

jacket spuds cook quickly in the stove also, double wrap and place to one side, best to put a brick on one side of the stove and sit the spud on that so its not direct on coals, keep checking and turning.

I warm pies also, just sit them on foil and then again on bars to create a gap, go a couple of inches and let the heat pass through the pie, can take a while though.

I think this is totally relevant. 100%. The job is to light the stairs. What is the best way to do it? Alan's script uses a risk analysis to identify a key risk, ie stopping people falling down the stairs in the dark. By choosing a multi light unit he is mitigating the risk. In this case the risk analysis has made the user of  the stairs safer at night. I would also put up a sign saying 'hold the handrail' but that is another story.

If anyone agrees with Dave that this is not relevant then you are not looking at risk the way we have to in manufacturing businesses these days.

You hit the nail on the head with the last part, its geared for risk analysis in engineering, manufacturing, as in risk of failure,  not risk of injury or death.

I have always done my risk assessments using the FMEA system (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis)

Identify what could ’fail’ (go wrong)

What is the likely hood of failure (on a scale of 1-10)

What is the impact of failure (on a scale of 1-10)

What is the severity of failure (on a scale of 1-10)

Multiply the results together to identify the priorities for action.

Not really relevant though to risk taking though is it?

    Email back from Graham,

I no longer carry out 'field' service calls on Alde installations being now workshop based on the re-manufacturing side of the business. However, my colleague Tim Matthews of |K.T.Maintenance does all the same work that I used to do and I can vouch for his skills as we have worked together for over 30 years. I will forward your email on to Tim and he will be intouch very soon to discuss your problems. If you want to contact Tim direct his mobile number is
    07425 540966.

Just checked my phone numbers and thats the same fella i had out to service mine, nice bloke and can recommend.

Like i mentioned earlier though, he charges for travelling at £50/hour so might bump the cost up somewhat to visit you up north.

I doubt (but don’t know) that Kevin will be wanting to retire so I guess whoever buys Onboard Energy will get him and his wide experience of Victron as part of the deal. So... for the forseeable I’d think that one can still recommend Onboard Energy.

Thought it was only a lease?
