Hi there , I'm new to the whole world of narrowboats is it possible to get a boat in pretty good condition and ready to cruise that would last a good few years without any major work needed on a budget of 25000 I only need something about 40 feet as I'm on my own,  sorry if this is a stupid question but if you don't ask you'll never know.

Have seen this boat and know of the owner, been looked after.

    Great points thanks.

Again I hadn’t thought about the bridges, my wife can create a lot of washing in 2 weeks!

    thanks folks

To be honest, five years of boating, I have never passed a boat through a bridge hole, tunnels just take it off.

However, I would it on the other side up near the kitchen so that heats projects towards the open door of the bathroom, I have mine like yours and the heat struggles to move round the corner into the bathroom/bedroom.

The footpath from br33 up towards Hartshill has also been blocked by the farmer.

that's actually a right of way, so if it has been blocked off then it needs reporting really.

Have moored on that stretch plenty and know other boaters who do, have never heard of anything bad happening there.

Same as most spots, only takes one bad experience and a boater to tell someone about it and it spreads.

  4. I would go to Coventry basin first, have a bit of city cruising, Friday night at Hawkesbury, Saturday night in the basin, Sunday night Ansty.

Then head south after that, the first few miles of the Ashby are a bit dull and you wont get much further than Hinckley, unless you put in very long days.

    An idea?

    Can boaters not help more?

Maybe put license costs up by, say, 50% and let boaters earn the increased costs back by doing unskilled work on the canal system at a fixed daily rate?

It would free up some money that is paid out now to contractors ie grass cutting, litter picking etc.

Of course people unable to work due to age or health should be exempt from the increased license costs.

It could be classed as voluntary work with the rebate as an incentive.

Not sure how the taxman would react and of course the workers would need supervision.

    Just a thought.

Give CRT more money and they will just waste more money, take work off them to save money and they will waste that money also..

A trend has been set, waste money and get away with it.

I think "tickover" is a more apt description.

Oh, welcome back Dave - if you have been on CWDF recently I haven't seen your posts. Everything O.K?

all good thanks, not on here much, more lurking, prefer the other channel.

  7. My Alde also heats water and rads, but Its different to others I believe as I leave the boiler running and it heats nothing, if I flick a switch on the wall it runs hot water around my calorifier heating the hot water, if I want the rads hot I turn up the wall thermostat, I don't need to use any valves to split between the two and both can run together or independently.

Take about 15 minutes to heat water enough for a hot shower.

    You should try Hatton.

On the hottest day of 2019.

Whilst running out fuel half way down and having to walk to the petrol station and back carrying 20L of fuel.

I know the basin. Just didn't have the nerve to stay overnight. Spent about six hours there and ventured into the museum and beyond. Just concerned about safety and noise and dog walking and.........

Thanks for the comment about walking to dogs. Strangely didn't think of the tow path. der!

I would go for Atherstone, top of the locks, quick walk down to lock four and you are at the train station, dog walking better, shops if you need them close by and no polish fishing next your boat all night like the basin, or sitting on the bench drinking...
