  1. I'm at Bosley at the moment heading south. Over the next few weeks I'll go onto the Trent and Mersey, head west towards Middlewich. My boat doesn't desperately need blacking but if I'm passing anywhere decent it would make sense to get it done. I'd rather not do the job myself. What I'm looking for is a place that will do a fair job at a fair price i.e. not charge for a minimum length of 45ft when my boat is only 35ft. Ideally I could stay on the boat while it's being done. Any suggestions?

  5. I bought this off Ebay recently: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111764722514?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT The idea was to charge it whilst cruising, or the sun is out, leisure batteries already full, then charge various devices later, save draining the batteries. It works OK but is certainly not as described. The ad states it's 20000 mah. My computer's battery is 6700 mah. So, I should be able to fully charge my computer around 3 times from one full external battery, right? Last night I ran my computer's battery down to 40%. I connected the fully charged external battery then went to bed. This morning the computer was 98% charged with the external battery flat. A rough calculation tells me that the external battery has a capacity of around 4000 mah rather than the 20000 described. Has anyone else used a similar battery, similar issue at all?

  19. Did you get yourself a mooring on the Macc in the end?
  20. The way mine works is that the generator plugs into the shoreline socket. This makes the 240v system in the boat live. A battery charger is plugged into a 240v socket. The leads from the charger go to the isolator for the leisure batteries. At least that's how it used to work, before my battery charger blew up.
  21. I believe it is, or was, in the region of 200K, leasehold.
  22. I've listened to the advice on here and decided to spend a bit more on something decent. I'm looking at this Sterling one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sterling-Power-Pro-Charge-Ultra-12v-20a-3-out-Battery-Charger-/181106971284?hash=item2a2ad11294:g:ZDcAAOxyCepSb40w Before I order it: The customisable program; does that mean I can enter 14.4 or whatever for generator charging and it will stick at this voltage indefinitely?
  23. I'm finally getting round to ordering something. To save you reading through the whole thread I need a battery charger for when I run the generator. This is to replace the one that set on fire recently. I want one where I can set the voltage rather than it automatically reducing to float. I'm not looking to spend a fortune. I've seen this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220VAC-12V-20A-6-200Ah-car-battery-charger-Pink-Aluminum-alloy-shock-resistence-/261968653192?hash=item3cfe8c6b88:g:MmQAAOSwd0BVpnxW Seems it would do the job, any thoughts? I'd have to cut the output wires supplied and connect to the existing wiring. I'd do this with a connector block. Is this acceptable? BSS? Also: I'd always set the current at the highest possible; 20 amps. Would you expect the readout on the charger to state 20 amps when it's running or would it be the reduced ampage as batteries approach being fully charged? It would be useful to know this, save me having to use a clamp meter each time. Thanks.

  25. Thanks. So if I were to strip off the insulation and measure the diameter of the wire, 2.5mm sq round profile wire is also 2.5mm diameter, is that right?
