  1. Thank you was it easy to locate and did you need to drain the oil to change it? Well I looked to remove the switch today....no success as yet 21mm spanner tried but no space, tried socket but can’t get it on due to oil filter. will try to source a box spanner or maybe a ratchet spanner....fingers crossed I don’t snap it off!!
  2. Thank you Hours not showing, but the engine was new in 2009, hardly been used since I bought it. tickover about 800 Correct filter and oil started since I had it serviced. Last year we went from Derby to Llangollen no problem, brought it back and had it serviced late last year. Only moved it 4 weeks ago and the problem was there. Call the engineers who did the service out and they said it seems to have excess crank case pressure. Think I will try and source a new pressure switch Many thanks for your help Tom Thank you was it easy to locate and did you need to drain the oil to change it?
  3. Hi Alan Did you ever sort out this problem....I am having the same issue following a service. I have even changed the oil filter again myself and used 20-50 oil as well as replacing the engine oil sump filter.....all to no avail!! I am being advised to change the engine (£10,000) which I don't have.....and the engine sounds great and has plenty of power......HELP!!!!
  4. Hi all I posted a question yesterday regarding gas lockers...thanks for all the advise it has helped a lot. Just one other query. I was thinking of removing the ballast to raise the boat in the water, I know of at least 3 narrowboat owners who have done this and they all seem happy with the results, no problems with stability reported. I would appreciate views or reports on experiences any of you have had? Kind regards
  5. Thanks everyone. At the moment the gas bottle is on its side lying in a few inches of water. The gas venting holes are permanently under water so it cannot drain. The water tank is at the front under the deck, not sure how full it is but it does have some water in. Also not sure how full the diesel is but again it does have some in. The front deck did have some standing water but I have freed the drainage holes and it has drained away, these holes are just clear of the water so think they are ok. Many thanks for the welcome and prompt responses!
  6. Hi, I currently own a 60 ft boat that has fairly low gas venting holes, when crusing they are just above the water and on the odd time water can run in slightly. I am just looking a buying another narrowboat, but it looks low in the water and the gas venting holes are below water, the gas cylinder is on its side in the water. Both drainage holes holes on the front deck have been blocked. I tried to lift carpets and boards inside the boat to see if its slowly sinking but cannot easily remove them. The agent selling the boat says "some boats are like that....dont worry!!" I have never seen one like this so would like advise please, can it be anything other than a hole/plating problem? I may still make an offer as my wife really likes the layout, but clearly need to allow for plating (£4.5k rough quote) Many thanks
