Can I run my MX40 direct on Kerosene? It would be quite easy for me to fit a seperate tank for this and kerosene seems to be available in barrels or drums quite cheaply for delivery so it is an option I am leaning towards. If it is possible.
Is it OK to do that? ?

Wickes - currently 3 for 2 on 10kg bags of smokeless at £6 a bag which I bought this morning, 6th Dec. That's 30 kg of smokeless for £12. Says 'while stocks last' which won't be long so make haste. And that's in London too for all you rural gents who think Londoners are nuts.
Good tip Neil
Its homefire and even including delivery its £100 for 24 bags. £10.40 equivalent per 25kg.
Just ordered 240kg

One advantage of an offset engine is that you can have a 'vintage power unit' (a JP a Gardner Russell Newbery etc) in a stern engine room while still being able to have a full height walkway around the side of the engine with plenty of space. this is good if you want a vintage engine, you want it at the back of the boat, you are tall and your main entrance to the boat;s interior is via the back doors.
'vintage power units' are noisy if in stern engine rooms. I had a Russell Newbery DM2 about 6ft forward of the steerer in an open engine room on a narrow boat and I went all over the canal system with it but it was very LOUD. I would look at the other people with their boatmans cabins and 'quiet' engines and think about how I would change it but never did.

Mind you don't get stuck in London and never come out the other side
a lot of people do
It is effectively a seperate country really, at some point the government will realise this and introduce border control

thats handy - its got on off switch relay outputs so you can kill the engine (if its got electric stop)

Either that or maybe it was welded up and towed by a tug? Must be too wide to go on a truck.
(edit to add, by that I mean maybe the boat was taken to cornwall as an unconverted work boat and had the superstructure arrangement added when it was already there ) but to be fair with a 180hp detroit in there she isn't underpowered..
There was another Humber Keel (Beecliffe?) down there which I think now belongs to a forum member and they are planning to or have already come round to London from Cornwall.
She must be very wide because that domestic heating oil tank on the back looks really small !

the GT02 will do that. ask where it is (by text) it will tell you (by text) at least thats what mine does and its the same as the one in my ebay link
manual for the GT02.

If you wanted to track a boat while someone else was using it I think a gps enabled smart phone with tracking software might be better because it would also store a route and other details on it where a simple tracker will just text you the location.
I think you can get online live viewing of these things but its probably a paid service
I used to use a trammel iron or optical device for wheel alignment. But I suggest it'd be best to take your car to the garage to get the tracking done.
Or did you want to track a parcel to be delivered by a courier.
propeller shaft alignment?
eta I suppose they might be going to switch off GSM at some point ? not sure if the tracker would work on modern networks so it may become obselete

I've got a gps gsm tracker on one of my boats.
send it a text message and if the sim can send texts out and has a phone signal and gps signal it will send its position back to the sender.
It does work, quite well really but its not 'realtime' tracking its just for making sure it is in the place where it was previously left.
GT02 gps tracker
that
the message you have to send it may be a bit tricky to work out but I found googling it a lot ended up finding the right format. something like DWXX,0000# or something equally baffling

I reckon it'd be seriously smoky and probably quite unpleasant to burn.
but worth a try I suppose.

But the SR3 is a bit longer - a lot of boats have the engine quite close to a steel bulkhead so a 3 might not fit in.
Would be a nice alternative if it was doable though, the SR3 is definitely the one I'd prefer in 45ft.

The unused pontoons in Limehouse basin are leftovers from the Olympics when the Water Chariots were running from there. Some of them have been converted to commercial or residential moorings but that squarish triangular bit in the little inlet by the dentist is not really used. I was told they were converting it to residential for the ££ but nothing so far.

it says that on boats under 20m the sidelights may be combined into one fixture. This implies that on boats longer than that they must be seperate. It doesn't state a reason but it seems obvious to me
The OP boat is 65ft which is just under 20m (for a good reason I expect !!) so could just do the same as Blackrose and it'd be okay. I'd much prefer to use lights on each side myself if it is at the boat fitout stage, that way you have a proper set of navigation lights, but each to their own

I'd come down the Oxford and do a week on the Thames if I was having a holiday from Rugby aiming at London, then go back up the GU route

I've just finished tiling the partition behind my kitchen/galley with orange 'metro tiles' and now I'm looking at the Morco water heater which is mounted there and wondering if I can paint it a more appealing colour than white. I was thinking of black actually.
Is there a particular reason not to do this? With radiator or stove paint?
I know the paint may be a bit unwilling to stick so it would probably need keying with coarse wet and dry first but it occurs to me there may be some sort of safety issue involved.
any help or comments appreciated

Limehouse is handy for seeing London. 24h free moorings in the marina on the public footpath 'wall'. This is enforced by the marina operator BWML who WILL come and charge you if you stay longer. However there may be space round the corner on Limehouse Cut which is alright. I would say that I live here
The main reason I say Limehouse is you have DLR to the city, or the canary wharf clipper pier where you can get boats inbound to embankment, london eye etc, or outbound to Greenwich maritime museum or the Millenium dome etc. If its a nice day its really not a long walk up to tower bridge along the Thames path past wapping, and there are some very old pubs along the way if that's your thing

But.
(I do know that using internet forums means its quite difficult to tell when someone is joking)

The first one looks a little bit like somewhere on the river Wey but I don't think BW would be advertising hire boats there as it is National Trust - but has it always been?
Looking again I think its probably on the Thames somewhere.
The background seems strange, there are no features at all on the 'bank' the other side. Is it a photo or a montage ?
Looks like the tip of Rod Eyot in Henley on Thames but the background would include trees I think if it is Mill Meadows
