High speed yogurt pot on the Leeds-Liverpool just below Appley Lock (91) this afternoon.
Are they allowed to fly that flag ?

I was suggesting that a private individual breaking the law is but an individual, liable to the failings of human nature.
A public organisation should have measures in place to ensure it does not break the law.
If it doesn't it's not fit for purpose, and the blame for that lies firmly with top management
The private individual who breaks the law can expect a penalty of some sort.
but it seems that when it's an organisation no one faces a penalty.
I do agree with your sentiment but your 'not fit for purpose' bit worries me to some extent.
If CRT demonstrate that they are not fit for the purpose of running the canal system then who is going to do it?
In my view they seem to be doing quite a good job of it given the challenges they face. I never had any trouble with BW to be fair since I bought my first canal and river cruising license in 1994.
I just don't think there is realistically a better option.

Are you going to 'go all the way' with this ?Not over yet.
By a long way.
Wouldn't it be better to let sleeping dogs lie ? (Even if they have been lying all along)
Edit to remove double post error

That's a good thing to try. I see what you mean about the clorifier soaking up all the energy anyway good point.

OK thanks. I have some pwm speed controllers. I wonder if it would be possible to get the hot water quicker by speeding up (or slowing down) the circulation pump manually. As it is just for hot water this would be an interesting option to look at. A manually operated speed controller.

One of my boats has an old Alde vertical boiler. The circulation pump is an integral type and not reliable. Is it feasible and/or worthwhile to plumb in a separate pump rather than shell out for another rather tinny alde pump?
I could put it on a separate switch. Thermostat is not needed. The boat has a multifuel stove anyway but the Alde is useful for getting a tank of hot water without running the engine. I don't want to fit a boiler to the fire.
Which pump is the best one to use for this purpose and where should it be fitted? Noise isn't a big deal as it's just for hot water and won't be running overnight.

Looks nice. My favourite type of barge but ita too wide for my residential mooring.
Not sure how old Historic needs to be for this thread but this is interesting (1950s). http://barges.apolloduck.co.uk/feature.phtml?id=470980
A bit too long for my mooring

I seem to remember the fore end of Grange is on rather a nice motor conversion with a Kelvin J2(?) in it. Possibly a Malcolm Braine boat but not sure about that.

Was it a crayfish trap on the prop?
(In case anyone is coming on the Wey and is not familiar I just discovered there is a good shop 2 minutes from New Haw lock beside the White Hart. Handy for emergency beer rations in case of not finding any in the cut

I have an Eberspacher and while it's certainly not without its flaws, it will heat the boat up (and the water) a lot quicker than the wood/coal stove. (by the time i've cleaned it, loaded it up and got it going - that is) Though I wouldn't do without either. It's always nice to have a choice depending on the situation.
My stove is currently stocked up with logs for next winter. Seems like a good place to store the logs.
Agreed I have a Mikuni mx40 and 2 coal fires. Ebers webastos and mikunis do have a place on canal boats. They are much maligned but it's partly to do with knowing how to use them properly!

Most boats of that type have neverspacher or similar diesel heaters. Hot air is favoured as it is more instant and involves less plumbing.

Oadiam AFAIK . My mum used to go there as a child on holidays.

It's called collateral damage by the chaps up here at the army camp. Sorry.

No worries - enjoy your boating we're on way back down the Wey just went through Newark Lock

15'8" perhaps? They are pretty wideHmmm.
61 feet 18 inches long by 5 feet 18 inches wide??
The summary says it has an engine, but the description says the engine is in Bristol and for sale separately.
Anyway its a nice little weekend project for someone !

Don't know for sure i was told by a 3rd party no confirmation but seemed genuine.
Has this been mentioned on the thread?

We've had the fire going during the day for the last 3 days. Just using random bits of wood I found here and there. Just lit it a few minutes ago.

I bought a new chimney back around Christmas. I put it on and left the old one on the roof next to it (being a responsible type and not wanting to throw it in the cut).
A few days later I got home and noticed the rusty old chimney was back on and my new one nowhere to be seen.
Disappointing to know it must have been another boater thieving...
I've seen a few sheds and vans with boat stove type collars and chimneys so I would not assume for certain it was another boat user but probably was

I did a quick calculation of the tons per inch immersion for a 15 tonne boat 2f6 deep and came to the conclusion you weigh at least 125kg if you push the boat down half an inch when you are standing on the front just sayin'
I don't know if your boat is 15 tonnes or 2ft6 deep though
And my math may be considerably incorrect anyway on account of mixing up inches and tonnes
-
I'd say Chertsey Meads too. They have untold knowledge and parts.
A bit of a distance for a boat with a questionable leg on it though.
-
My added weight near the bow gave us the extra half inch that we needed...

Not sure if it's been suggested but maybe the chap had consumed too much alcohol? There is a pub there after all. A while back a bloke completely lost the plot with me having a coal fire - shouted all the swear words you can think of about boaters being the biggest polluter f****g scum you c**t w****er etc from the towpath opposite the boat. When I met him sober a while later turned out he is a nice bloke just goes mad after a few beers. I went to the pub with him to check thw situation and after a few pints whooops the plot is lost.
You do get 'em from time to time
