  1. Thanks guys! Thanks to this thread I called peter to do a job which others had refused and he was very positive and helpful and made things most importantly quite simple. I'm having my toilet tank removed : )
  2. No we tried to but no fuel was coming through the injectors which is what we found when we tried to bleed it.
  3. I have a Ducati twin cylinder Diesel engine. I have had two guys look at it for me and the diesel filter and pump filters were checked and all clean. It was decided after a thorough inspection and problem elimination that the problem lies with the fuel cut out/off control mechanism. As the diesel is not going through to the injectors. I basically need someone that knows what needs to be done of parts to be ordered and where to get them from and to fix it. Obviously all expenses will be paid. I am in London between bow locks and Tesco. Please contact me if you are able to help. Kirsty.coddington@hotmail.co.uk 07730039822
  4. Hi I have a Single Ducati Diesel engine with twin cylinders on my 27ft Spinger narrowboat. I have had two engine people look at it so far and the conclusion is that the Diesel pump is not working and to fix/replace it it will need taking apart. So I should get someone that knows how to sort it out. I was wondering if there is anyone who is confident with these engines and can fix the problem? or you may know the person I need to talk to. Please let me know if you do. thanks Kirsty
  5. Thanks the site was very helpful. It's 8hp : )
  6. I have a Ducati, single engine, twin cyclinder diesel engine for a 27ft narrow boat. Does anyone have an idea what the Horse power would roughly be on this? Or the CC?? I'm filling out my licence and can't find this information on the paperwork. Cheers
  7. Thank you David Mick. I can't tell you how helpful this is to me who has absolutely no idea and is a little overwhelmed by it all. Thank you for taking the time to do this. I now understand what everyone is talking about : ) I will investigate this on my next day off work. Today I gave been pumping water out of the engine bilge and I found a screw hole about 6mm and the water was passing through thus from the main bilges. I believe the water came in from the engine bilge and filled up the main bilges and as I emptied the engine bilges it reversed. There maybe other holes I have more investigations to do. I'll keep all informed.
  8. I manually pump out water at the moment with a hand bilge pump but when I am moving the bilge pump pumps out water from the engine bilge. Yes the engine bilge has water in it, when I first discovered the problem it was fuller than its ever been. The stern gland has grease in it, my father and I spent a few greasy hours sorting that little mechanism out.
  9. Hi, firstly thanks for all your replies which were very quick. Yes I have been turning the stern gland (gold thing which you turn the tap on and it releases grease into something... Right? Like an old fashioned silver icing pump) actually ready some of your posts I'm not completely sure that this is the stern gland! I stopped using my water tank system because the tank seemed to be emptying very fast and we suspected a leak and since we have no shower I felt that I can do without a water tank for now till I get this major problem sorted. So I should have no drain water except for the sink but that seems to come out the side of the boat fine. As far as I'm aware water is not pumped out .... Only when it's moving the bilge pump squirts it out. The deck area/ engine covers were not covered with a canopy or tarpaulin when it was raining so it is possible it has been exposed to the last 3 months of weather. I also have to say that the boat is now in Little Venice in London and that's what I meant to say when I said "All the way" but my auto correct thing on my phone changed what I was saying. So it's travelled quite far (Ely to London) and taken lots of rain water which I assumed was going to the engine area. But it seems it may have travelled through to the rest of the boat.
  10. Hello, I am quite new to the narrow boating world. I have had my 27ft springer narrowboat for about 3 months and have moved it all the way from Ely to Cambridge. About 2 weeks ago I found the toilet room carpet was drenched and this was when I discovered the hatch to the bilges in the floor. Since then I have been pumping out water with a hand pump I would say its now filling up faster I think I have emptied it 5-6 times. I'm quite scared as I've out all my money into this boat. I had a out of water survey and it all looked ok. But the surveyor did fail to find this hatch which I think he probably should have. Any ideas on what to do??? I have had it out of water twice already... Once to be surveyed and another to be blacked. When I was moving her the bottom did scrape over some hard stones which worried me a bit but it all seemed fine. I'm very concerned. Any ideas???
  11. Excellent!! Thanks a lot, I have emailed a surveyor and hopefully will hear something soon.
  12. Hello everyone, I must start off by saying I am new to the board and to Narrowboating. I am looking to by a 27ft Narrowboat, the boat is located in the Lock Marina, Upware in Cambridgshire. The boat is currently in water. The boat was built in 1970, the owner has had it for 4-5 years. I am looking for a surveyor to look at the boat for me as I am very keen on the boat and want to buy it ASAP. Can anyone give me any good recommendations?
  13. I'm looking for surveyors in the Upware, Cambridgeshire area. Can anyone recommend anyone? Thanks K. C.
  14. The address is Lock marina,Upware,Cambs. near Wicken close to the Five Mile from Anywhere Pub. This is the address the seller gave me. Any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated. I am a bit weary about this boat, it was for sale last year but did not sell, it's dated 1970 and seems quite cheap for just under £8000. It's 27ft. How much does one think it will cost to get the boat out of water to be surveyed?
