  1. Now all fixed. The red widget was a surprise to the guys in the chandlery as well, but as suggested by peter n, it was a case of bending the brass band open, sliding the red widget off. The rubber seals and locknut also had to be removed from the lever end before it could be put on. Other than that, not as bad a job as I'd anticipated. Well, the boat still works and we have engine revs so it must be better than it was :-)
  2. Hi Jan... I'm off down to Willington shortly to get a replacement cable then press-ganging my lad in for an extra pair of hands to refit it. If I get it done, I'll take Hugh for a quick spin between the two winding holes at Kiveton just to check everything's ok before we need it again for trips next weekend :-)

  4. I wonder if someone could help me? I manage a trip boat for a canal restoration org and the morse throttle cable has given out today. We've got the cable out and identified a replacement, but I'm unsure about one thing. On the end that fits in to the control lever, there's a red plastic widget with THROTTLE on it. This doesn't appear to be part of the new cable (this is new to me in case you hadn't realised!) this plastic widget locates in to the lever assembly and holds everything in the right position. It seems to be fastened on the cable with a metal "band" which threads through the widget, presumably around something on the cable. The question is, is it just a case of removing the metal band (unbending it?) to slide the red plastic hubbies off and revering the procedure to fit it on the new cable? Any help appreciated before I go out tomorrow to get a new cable. Thanks.
  5. I think you might like to read this... On behalf of everyone connected with the Chesterfield Canal Trust, can I thank you all for your warm generosity. The contributions made by members of this forum made a massive difference to us reaching our target (even if Cheshire Rose did bully you in to it!). We will be writing to the main grant suppliers shortly informing them we have the necessary funds in place. If you want to keep track with what's happening, please keep an eye on our website. As our publicity officer said so eloquently in the article, this is only the start, so if you still have any spare beer tokens left over, we'll be happy to carry on taking them for the Staveley Town Lock appeal. I should point out that donations made to this cause do go in to our accounts as reserved funds, so you can be assured that's where the money will go Once again, thanks!!
  6. There should be "buy a brick" leaflets and there's information in the 2012 guide books. Sorry if you missed them. When you say "visitors centre", do you mean Hollingwood or Tapton Lock? If the latter, we probably need to put some more in there. I would have hoped there would have been some there though. There's certainly a stock at Hollingwood.
  7. ...and they'd be do doubt delighted to hear that our appeal is currently standing at the princely sum of £3120! Thanks to all concerned!
  8. Steven, I'm going to be down at Hollingwood tomorrow morning - I have a new phone extension to install on the Hollingwood PBX, so if you want to catch up with me down there, do so by all means. If you want to give me a call in the morning, my mobile number is 07973530987 (although there's limited coverage actually at Hollingwood). I'll willingly wander down to the Basin with you and show you around.
  9. Your wish is my command: http://bit.ly/f3ARNN Past the halfway mark now, and a big round of thanks on behalf of all the Trustees to everyone here for your fantastic contributions so far. A special thankyou is due to cheshire-rose for mobilising you all as well!
  10. Harumph! Some people will complain about anything. Actually, you make a valid point which I do know about... I really ought to tweak the colour settings (aka stylesheet) on the website to make the hyperlinks stand out a little better. Thanks for reminding me. there'll also be another "significant" update on the totaliser later following a very very VERY nice notification email I just received (although all donations are received with our heart-felt thanks!)
  11. I don't know why some people have been getting out of stock messages. I've just checked the shop and its set not to track stock levels. Anyway, I've set the available number to 99999 bricks now, so there should be no trouble going forward. That should be enough get us half way to Renishaw
  12. Sorry it's took a while for someone to come on here and thank everyone; I've been on holiday and am just catching up on the email backlog! Can I, on behalf of the Trustees of the Chesterfield Canal Trust thank everyone for their contributions received to date. Together with the redirected beer funds(!), our appeal thermometer is sat at £790 - 25% of the way to our required total. You can view it on-line here: http://www.chesterfield-canal-trust.org.uk/index.php/latest-news/closing-the-gap/361-we-need-your-help If anyone has any specific questions about the Trust, this campaign or anything else to do with the Chesterfield, if I can't answer them myself, I probably know someone that can. Thanks again everyone!
