  1. Yep, I know, if anyone got ant better ideas/knows anything about the tidal end of the medway?
  2. Hmm, been quoted 7000 for boat out, shot blasted, surveyed and one coat epoxy, that's without welding which has to be done by their welders :-( joy of living on a tidal river in a long narrowboat
  3. Ok, am sat on the river medway in my 70ft steel narrowboat trying to get her waterways ready. She needs surveying/ welding? And painting. Because she's stupidly long I am limited on the river to dry dock access and am trying to weigh up whether a) to stick her in a floating dry dock in middle of river and have her surveyed ( the bloke responsible for the dock is apparently a bit of a crook and I should avoid getting any work done through him), once surveyed move down river and organise welding and painting ( no shot blasting allowed there) and reliant on various individuals already busy to do work Or take boat to expensive marina where they can get me out, all work must be done by their staff and they have a bit of reputation again for fleecing people. Wot sort of cost are these things on the inland waterways?
  4. Head now hurts after reading all that, its the ludite in me quashing the comprehension button. 2 questions, wot sort of aerial/ where do I get aerial from, am assuming thats for a WiFi hub? Is speed of internet when tethering from phone to laptop affected by type of laptop/ phone ?
  5. Needing to get internet on boat for sons college stuff and potentially his games. New to all this WiFi stuff but mates have recommended Alcatel onetouch? Am curious to know if signal for any of these gizmos us affected by being used within 4 steel walls?
  6. Anyone using a Mikuni water heater, I want to run it off fuel tank but suggestion has been new yank solely for white diesel or kerosene because red diesel bad for heater ( would be using filters) any experience?
  7. Thankyou, its a bit of a mine field fitting out a boat as regards the amount of people who have an opinion, generally all different and often life threatening if ignored apparently. Pipework is being installed by an experienced fitter but not of boats, and will be getting proper ticket, just good to have a positive response :-)
  8. Will be double checking with bss examiner at sensible time of day but in mean time, does a gas pipe have to be continuous, ie no lengths of pipe held together by compression fittings and only joints at appliances? And is 15mm ok when running 30 ft to a cooker and fridge? :-)
  9. Hi, am wondering if anyone got approx 5 metres of PVC coated copper gas pipe 15mm to run from cylinder cupboard through engine room, really trying to avoid buying 25 metres unnecessarily , cheers :-)
  10. Have gone for a morco log water heater to supply a shower and am now getting horror stories of lpg on boats. Obviously it will be fitted and ticketed by appropriate people, its in the middle of a 70 foot narrowboat, will it freeze when we go away, will these heaters be illegal on waterways soon, am I going to fry my family? Its been a very long year, we just started to make a bit of headway or so I thought, any comments
  11. Hi, hurray for spring, anyone have any plans for a central heating system running from a back boiler on the burner? Potentially including water tank for hot water too running from water storage tank. Anyone aware of any regulations regarding such a system on a boat, :-)

  13. Heh Smelly, only registered today and getting handle on use of this site but, long time no see, need to find alternative way of communicating than this discussion forum, an old friend told me you has a boat, didnt expect you to be first response.:@) Now to windows. These rubber runners, how important is it that they are an exact fit? The seals website runners are a couple of mm too wide and couple of mm too short? I have found a vintage spares site that does universal rubber runners but again they are nominally for a channel width of 13mm as opposed to our 10mm channels.
  14. We've taken out all our windows and need to replace the rubbers, and keep getting told no one makes the rubber runners we need for the sliding windowa. Size = glass width 6mm, channel width 10mm and channel height 13mm. Any idea where we could try?
