  1. I thought partition walls were bulkheads too, WotEver. It's not the same stuff on the bulkheads, it's that flimsy stuff that lines the walls I'm after. Veneered Plywood, I'll have a search, thank you.
  2. The wood sheets that you line the walls with. Where do you buy them from please? I don't even know if they have a proper name. Sorry. Thank you.
  3. Thank you all. I will print out all your replies and present them to the committee. ?
  4. Hello! All good thanks, hope you're well too ?
  5. It's not the fuse or the reset button. Water heats fine via running the engine. Before husband drains the tank to fit a new element, could it be anything else?
  6. Not just me that needs to know then..
  7. Thank you Neil, our old one has an elbow, do you have to have it specially made? Apologies if I am asking dumb questions, we've had the boat for years but this is the first new flue we've needed.
  8. Yes, thanks. It's just that never having bought one, I don't want to be ripped off. So is it best going to Midland Chandlers, or any other chandlers, or going to a log burner store, or even ebay?
  9. Can you use any kind of flue or are there special ones for narrowboats? Yes, gormless here. Husband is doing the job not me and he does know what he's doing but I just like to check. Where do you get them, best and cheapest?
  10. Well yes, I do all that. But I also like TV now and then. My husband has the same opinion as you, Tiller, but I actually LIKE the gogglebox now and then, and though it's not for everyone, it is what I like. When we've only a week or a weekend on the boat, I couldn't care less about TV, but living aboard is a whole different thing.
  11. I have pondered these questions too so I hope you don't mind me jumping on the bandwagon. I have also thought about renting out my house but there is something that doesn't sit easy with me, and that is being a landlord. I cannot stand the thought of being called out every time a tap is dripping, or the shower doesn't work, or they don't pay their rent then do a bunk... so selling my bricks and mortar is what I would also like to do. I want rid. I'm feeling like it's a liability whether I live in it or someone else does.
  12. Would this be the thing you hang in your window then plug your phone in and get the charge from it? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Outdoor-Waterproof-5000mAh-Dual-USB-Solar-Power-Bank-Battery-Charger-for-i-phone-/401186047056?var=&hash=item5d688d4450:m:mrKMPmh2umINjdQ22zGI2bA
  13. Thank you all so much for this information, it's very useful. The Humax sounds about right, like the idea of recording 3 programmes because as you say Grassman, good programmes are like buses. You wait ages for one and three come along at once.
  14. See... I like the soaps. Well only the one really, Corrie. Not everyone's cup of tea but it's like chicken soup for my poor exhausted brain after a trying day at work. I can just sit and stare at it for half an hour and not have to think very hard. Not that anyone should have to justify why they like TV. I do what I like. Not what everybody else thinks I should like.
  15. I have those too, Mutts. Sometimes I just like a bit of TV. I also like music. And walking, and horseriding, skiing and singing. But not all at the same time.
  16. Thanks for your input folks. I'd not be recording if we were cruising, I'm one of these who pauses a show while I do something else then come back to it, or record a show while I'm down the pub so I can watch it when I get in. I can live without Sky movies, I'm ashamed to say I like Coronation Street and Can't Pay, Take it Away. Oh, and Destroyed in Seconds, but to be honest when you've seen one power boat flip over, you've seen them all..
  17. Argos seem to have some Freeview boxes that do the job... anybody got one? Do they actually work?
  18. As I'm not quite a liveaboard, I don't watch much TV on our boat and when I do it's either a DVD or whatever channels I can pick up on Freeview. However. As a landlubber, I simply do ADORE my Sky+. I love being able to record things without having to programme a video recorder (remember those? ), and I love being able to rewind live TV. So is there an equivalent? Because one of these days I won't be a landlubber and I'll be looking to wave ta-ta to Sky TV which in my humble opinion is grossly overpriced anyway....
  19. Does anyone subscribe for £18.00 a year? I'm just noseying on it and you can search the cams from a few days ago... but I think that's if you pay. Shame, I wanted to have a look at myself on a webcam, how sad is that?
  20. Oooo look... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Clothes-Washing-Wand-Portable-Washer-Easygo-Camping-Rapid-Mobile-Dorms-Easy-Home-/252379059302?hash=item3ac2f6d466:g:~dAAAOSwwpdW-yDb It's in the US though. And it's fortunes...
  21. What's the modern equivalent? When we're away (as we're not liveaboards) I sometimes do a bucket of washing, and I've realised why my mother had one of those copper laundry possers. The water is hot, the washing powder makes my hands sore, so a posser would be brilliant and if I can find one at the right price, I'll be buying one. They're about a tenner plus postage on ebay, but I'm wondering if there is something more modern? Please don't say washing machine, I won't be having one of those on the boat anytime soon.
  22. I'm absolutely thrilled that you have got your beloved boat back. No matter what has happened, the boat was yours and still is yours, so I do hope that you won't feel violated... not too much anyway. Hopefully a good clean and some time under your belt and you can relax and enjoy yourselves with your boat again.
  23. Anyone on the river Nene? That's been known to hide stolen boats from time to time... plenty of reeds I believe.
  24. Midway boats are right up by the junction at the end of the Middlewich branch of the shroppie. Dozens of online moorings there. Then if they turn right, they'll go by Tattenhall Marina and Golden Nook moorings...
