  1. yes I thought portholes look nicer as well , do they make the boat noticeably darker inside?
  2. You could have a compressor fitted and belt driven off the engine like a modern car a/c ( the boat was fitted with a modern isuzu 4 cylinder engine), if I was to purchase my own boat I think I would explore the options. I'm sure an hour or two with a/c on while you were cruising would dry the air out nicely? The boat also had aluminium single glazed windows/rooflight which didn't help , possibly double glazing and frames made of less heat conductive materials would improve things. There were 3 adults and 2 kids 9 & 10 on a 66 footer so not overcrowded.
  3. Why not fit an A/c unit , that would dehumidify the boat in a few hours I'm sure, you wouldn't need it on all the time ? Or is it against some regulations
  4. "A big pension pot can't be collected when you are dead." That's very true , I used to work for BT for many a year where I got to know many different people , I was shocked at how many popped their clogs within a year of retirement ( a lot after early retirement in their 50's )
  5. After owning various sports/speedboats over the years I decided to give canal boating a go , so after 2 CB holidays with rental boats I must say I really enjoy it even though the speed is somewhat less. However I was perturbed by the amount of condensation when we "did" llangollen last week , I tried to open windows but my companions were dead against it do to it being "perishing" outside according to them , the boat is fitted with 4 permanently open roof vents and 2 in the doors , we had the heating on most of the time to no real avail. I wondered then why people don't fit air/con units on these boats , the ones you see on vans ( you could camouflage it with some ornate painting and some fretwork , that would sort the problem in a few hours
