  2. Hi - Cheers for the replies Yes to the dodgy wiring - was looking at that thinking it was a botch - so will re-do that and also try the suggestion about the front-to-rear fader - see if that helps I love bass too much :-)
  3. Hi I'm using a Kenwood KDC 4547U running on 12V onboard for music: http://s921.photobucket.com/user/mapleaudio/media/KDC4547U.jpg.html It has 50W output, and I've got 70W speakers attached The sound is great but once I turn it up to around 22 anything with bass gets a bit distorted and above that it actually turns the stereo off / resets it So my question is - does this happen because there's simply not enough power going in (12V) - or is it the stereo / speaker combo ? Looking at other car stereos they all seem to have the same spec in terms of output etc Thanks in advance...
  4. Thanks for the updates Lady Muck - nice one :-) Are you / do you know Paddy up there. And Collette and Chris (who are sunning it don under at the mo) ? Loads of wide ranging and interesting posts on this forum in general - from the acerbic to the welcoming and helpful. Housing has always been an issue, in fact it's political. Was squatting in London for years, then housing coop, private rent etc. People moving onto the canals in a city is a bit of a natural progression / a response to housing in general. Been reading a thread about a 'third way' in relation to CC / moorings etc which I would say is a positive start. Cheers again .ben.
  5. Hi all Thanks for being 'gentle' :-) That's a whole load of replies and issues within there. Am aware that there are loads of issues at the moment - around housing, CC etc - and have been reading the forums and beyond for ages now - loads to learn of course - thanks for the tips givin here too. And I def won't be doing music on the boat as it involves drums! :-) So all that aside, the initial query was about night-time on the canals, My impression is that it's currently safer than it was in some places, due to the higher amount of boats - but that depends where of course. There's the whole length of canal to consider. Was just wondering what some people's experiences were in London generally - and will continue talking to the current lot on the canal too. Cheers again .ben.
  6. Hi Another newby here so please be gentle :-) We're about to move to the towpaths of the Regent's and Lea Valley etc. Having lived in these areas for 20 years I know what they're like in general, and how they're changing fast etc - but I haven't lived on their towpaths - and was wondering if there are any others out there who are and what their experiences are so far. I've been out and about chatting to boaters and there's a great sense of community etc with all the usual niggles. In particular am thinking about nighttime, and getting back late, especially along the Lea where it's more isolated and out of the way. We're out a lot, at work and then gigs etc (am a musician) so we get back late. Looking forwards to hearing your tips and stories Cheers .ben.
