  1. That would be very handy, I'd love to get the thing working!
  2. Hello, I have a Deville diesel heater on my boat, and am looking for someone to come and service it in the London area. it has never worked properly, and I have given it a good clean. I don't really want to muck about doing it myself if it can be avoided! Many thanks, Nara
  3. Yes we will be needing it, we are living aboard. We also have a diesel burner right down the end of the boat, but it's a 60footer, and I've got a feeling the heat from that will not be felt in the bedroom. No sign of the missing bit either!
  4. Bugger! Anyone know of a way to attach straight from my computer?
  5. When buying our boat we realised that the top hinge on our woodburner was broken and thought it would be easy to buy a replacment door. Now we realise, not knowing the make of it, that this might be a problem. Could we get a new hinge welded on? Would this be safe? I have attached some photos to see if anyone recognises this burner. Many thanks for your help. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152097441850463&set=a.10152097441625463.923512.733005462&type=3&theater https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152097442145463&set=a.10152097441625463.923512.733005462&type=3&theater
  6. And this would run off the 12v socket of my Kipor? I see they do a 24v version too-would that be better?
  7. Steeling products look great, but they are just too expensive for me at the moment!
  8. Ah ok, thanks for that. Also, if I decide to change the batteries on the boat, which I will be doing at some point, will I be able to use the same charger for a different type of battery?
  9. After having bought a generator to charge the batteries on my boat, I have now been told that I should buy a battery charger too. Having spent a fair whack on the gennie, I'm looking to keep costs down on the charger. Is something like this: My link any good? If not, what should I be looking at buying, considering I am on a budget? Thanks.
  10. It's a 70's Norseman hull Hancock and Lane. The hull seems to be in good condition otherwise, which is good news for a boat that old!
  11. Just had a lovely boat surveyed and one of the main things that needs doing is to "clean steel in bilges of loose scale, rust and coatings, treat with rust inhibitor and paint with suitable bilge paint." My question is, does this mean that I will have to remove everything from the boat to complete the job? Kitchen and everything? Sounds like a huge pain in the arse-does anyone have any tips or advice? Many thanks.
  12. The boat listing on Jim Shead lists the boat maker as unknown...the boat I'm looking at is a trad stern, whereas most of the H & C boats I've seen have been cruisers. Is there such a thing as a trad stern H and C?
  13. Going to resurrect a very old thread here in hope of some advice! Can anyone tell me how to spot a Hancock and Lane boat? Do they have any features which are specific to them? Have been looking at buying what is thought to be a Hancock and Lane, and as their reputation is very good I'm keen to be sure it is what the seller says it is, before I pay to get it out the water and have it surveyed. Thanks.
  14. It's amazing how much you lot can tell from a photo! As you've got this amazing talent, would anyone be able to give their valued opinion on this?: My link Off to see it today, and as a boating newbie, I'd really appreciate some pointers on what to look for and how much to offer to pay, if we like it.... Many thanks, Queen of the Night x
  15. At the moment we are using the laptop for pretty much everything. Films, photos, music, internet, email, documents. Not so much gaming although my partner does like that strategy stuff. So, yeah, everything really! Really confused about the 12v. Would that mean getting some kind of inverter and running the laptop off the leisure battery rather than the 240 mains socket? Would that save loads of power? I remember from campervanning that running the inverter to use the laptop absolutely drains it!
  16. Unfortunately a Macbook is a bit out of my price range, I'd love to get one but I've got about £400 ish to spend on something. HP Pavillion and Samsung seem to be quite popular!
  17. The time has come for me to buy a new laptop, and as I'm also planning to live aboard and continuous cruise I was wondering if anyone had any advice on which laptop has the longest battery life and draws the least power? It seems like it's going to be something that's going to be quite important once I'm on a boat. Although I've looked at lots of laptop specs, the battery life quoted and what people seem to achieve out of them seems wildly different... Really looking for something with a screen which is not too small and a CD drive, which I know eats the battery but is pretty essential for me. Many thanks, Nara
  18. The boat we've had our eye on is an R and D boat, which apparently has 6'6" of headroom. Before we go to look at it, does any one here have any information or views on this make? Anything we should be specifically looking for? And anything we need to be aware of? Thank you!
  19. Yeah the cross bed type is no good for him at all! Definitely time for some DIY surgery on him I think!
  20. I have asked him, but for some reason he's not too keen!
