  1. I will be going to my boat at the weekend, so will have a look and take some pics of it if I cant find it. I'll make sure the keys are nowhere near the ignition and will isolate the battery. Just to add I have a really good neighbour where my boat is moored he's been every so helpful to me but he's not always down there at weekends, if he's there this weekend I will ask him if I have one. Like I say I havent got anything stuck on the prop yet, so I really need to know what to do if I did. Im very grateful for all your replies so far Thankyou
  2. Going to have to do this at some point, Im a little nervous at putting my hands into things and it's going to be even worse if I cant see what Im touching! I have to wear rubber gloves even just to wash up lol.....do you think boating is for me? hahaha too late now anyway cos I love it and theres just no way of going back!
  3. Lol thats so cruel but funny at the same time!! Richard, I bought it as a Buckingham 25ft but I could swear it's a 28ft this one is for sale and is exactly the same as mine and they have classed it as a 28ft!!!!!!!! confused.com lol
  4. My boat is 1975 so I dont think it has one. I was too busy on my boat to go and have a look at what the other guy was doing. He didnt come back wet so god knows how he did it unless he had a weed hatch like yours julynian and got stuck in! lol Noway will I be 'diving in' I have a phobia of being in the water next to a boat hull, I'll just send my 9yr daughter in and promise her an ice cream when she comes back up !!!! (only joking btw)
  5. Ok sorry classicstove, I was just going on what I had been told by my boss. No wonder Royal Mail is goin down the pan lol !!!! Thankyou Rachel
  6. Hi there, I work for Royal Mail and have just spoken to my boss on this matter. Apparently Royal Mail have stopped this due to fraud/security issues. He also said that aslong as the parcel isnt special delivery/recorded and IF the post office AGREES to accepting your item/s then to put your name on it but the address of the Post Office you want it delivering too. In other words dont let it go through the Royal Mail system. If it is a valuable item and it gets lost then the only problem with what I have mentioned above is that you wont be able to trace it. Hope this helps and sorry I cant offer you better advice. Regards Rachel
  7. I have a BCM 1.5 inboard diesel engine on my Buckingham 25ft cabin cruiser. As a new boater I was just wandering if there was anyway you can get to the propeller without taking the boat out of the water? If I was to get something stuck round the prop how would I get it off? I had a guy that had moored up temporarily that came running across the bank asking to borrow my boathook saying something was stuck round his propeller, he came back 30 mins later thanking me and that he had got the offensive item off - turned out to be a paper boiler suit! I understand NB have ''weed hatches'' Any help much appreciated Thankyou Rachel P.S Sorry to be a thicko lol
  8. No offence taken, although can I just say I only started panicking when I realised I was stuck! We all pay our river licence ( well most of us do, I have witnessed a few boats with licences well out of date already! but thats another story) so nb, grp or whatever boat you have you dont own the river or canal.......it is there for everybody's enjoyment. Since then, I have been down the Trent plenty of times and passed many boats on that same stretch where I got stuck and had no trouble since. But next time I will know better...... Thanks for your advice/replies so far much appreciated Regards Rachel
  9. Thankyou for the welcome this site seems helpful and Im sure as a new boater I will learn some good advice from many of you.

    God bless

  10. Just going back to the original thread post lol, I am very new to boating, bought my first ever boat in June this year and absolutely love it as does my 9 yr old Daughter, anyway I had never driven a aboat ever but when I bought this I was lucky enough to be taught well enough the basics. My 'instructor' told me that you always keep to the right etc amongst other important stuff. On my very first outing dgown the River Trent I was confronted by a narrow boat coming the other way, so I kept to the right as I had been told and the nb just kept coming over towards me forcing me in the weeds!!!! I mean how wide is the River Trent!????????? I got stuck as I had nowhere else to go, unless I had cut him up and gone on his left then I could of avoided this. My daughter was crying I was in a panick but managed to get us both out after about 15 mins of struggling. The bloke who was steering the nb didnt even look at us let alone acknowleged us or even turn round to come and help us, maybe that was due to the fact that I was in a cabin crusier and thought he was above me and owned the entire river!!!!!!! I reported this when I got back to the owner of the marina and he said that I should of took his boat number and that I still did the right thing by staying on the right. I am learning new rules every time I take my boat out and have never come across a pig ignorant git like him since, everyone has been so helpful but like some of you have said you'll always get one!! Sorry to have a moan for my very first post lol but we all have to start somewhere and like I said everybody I have met on the water have really been such a help to me, albiet through the locks, how to moor up, where to/not to moor up etc. Regards Rachel and
