    JK6M running

Got the JK6 up and running today all seems fine so far even the gearbox, see youtube link below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=hAt0jLYdXeM
  2. We looked at that two years ago it was for sale by BW is it still at Stanley Ferry
  3. I seem to remember a local theory at the time about the "accidental breach" allowing them to access lots of extra coal and that it was "lucky" that they got all their large plant out safely.
  4. I had three double heads done as you know, pressure tested and skimmed picked up yesterday £150 + Vat, they made the blanking plates etc and gave them to me. Do you want three plugs sending, I had forgotten about them. £600 sounds they they are taking the p**s. Southern prices??
  5. Thanks again for the replies, I fell lucky with head gaskets I found three new genuine ones on the boat complete with a selection of shims. I will check the lands as I never thought of that. With regard to sealant on the gaskets I have stripped two engines one was bare and I think that is how it came from the factory and the other was coated all over with wellseal. What is the best thing to use around the waterways and studs??
  6. I have been offered some straight top liners at a reasonable price for my Lister JK6, I need two of the six for sure but I haven't got round to cleaning the others up yet. The liners in the engine were stepped top and I understand that these were the later ones introduced to overcome a problem with head gasket failure. The lister manual I have says that either can be used as long as they are all the same So my question is are the straight top liners any good or are they more prone to head gasket problems.
  7. I am struggling to get the pulley of the front of the crank (lister JK6) its a cast iron pulley and there is not much room to get a puller in. I have it soaking in diesel and have left a 2 leg puller on over night. Would heat help with a cast iron pullet or has anyone got any tips.
  8. Thanks for the info everyone I have also posted on The Lister engine forum and the consensus of opinion is that they are better bare if I am using antifreeze and super coolant which I plan to.
  9. I am currently rebuilding a Lister JK6M engine that is in My Humber keel. I have stripped a scrap generator engine for spares and will be using the best heads liners, pistons etc in the rebuild. I am currently splitting the block from the bed to check the main bearings as the big end bearings are scored. One thing I cant find out though is what if anything to paint the outside of the liners with before refitting. The engine is cooled through a tube heat exchanger and i intend to use antifreeze - corrosion inhibitor so does anyone have experience of painting liners on Lister JK or JP engines.
