When BW changed to CRT the NBW gleefully published a story about how stupid they were for not buying up all the relevant Web addresses and reported that they had bought the American canalandrivertrust.org address to stop them using it.
What they had failed to check though was whether or not they had bought all their relevant addresses.
I did check however and became the proud owner of narrowboatworld.co.uk.
I recently relinquished ownership as it was costing me a tenner a year to keep an old joke going.

Just now, Athy said:...or perhaps,as was mentioned on this forum some time ago, their bafflement that after a week the water stopped coming out of the taps?
That reminds me of the time we met up with my sister and family in their new caravan.
They loved it apart from the fact that none of the plug sockets worked.
Their holiday experience was transformed when I explained the concept of mains hook up.

Very much so - to the extent that I wonder if it is actually genuine.
Part 2 will focus on their overflowing poo tank, frozen water points and being sunk by a rampaging shanty boat.

LONG LIVE ECCENTRICITY AND ORIGINALITY AND RESPECT TO ANYONE BRAVE ENOUGH TO DIVERGE FROM THE CLONECRAFT TEDIUM.
Heyerdhal built his boats to prove that ancient civilisations could cross oceans in rafts built of grass, bamboo and sticks.
This brave soul has built a raft out of oil drums and shiplap because it is better than a department store doorway.
Shanty boats don't cause hazards for decent law-abiding clonecrafters...decent law-abiding clonecrafters' inability to cope with their boats and canal furniture do.

It's not thought out as a boat at all. It's a shed, on a pallet base, on oil drums
It's a good job Thor Heyerdhal didn't think like that.

Some later Stowe Hill boats were nicknamed Stowe Filler, there is so much on the gunnel edges, cabin welds and other areas.
Yes in the boat fitting trade the theory was that if you threw 10 magnets at them only 3 would stick.

Yes, but the change came because folk considered that horseless carriages performed better not because the government imposed a restriction on the dropping of horse poo.
Improving the environment is performing better.
The change will come because it has to.

For the Victron smart solar device the manual clearly states it will auto detect 12 or 24 v system one time only. After that you have to manually change it.
cant comment on other controllers

What might "bait and switch" be?
I've not heard it being used in journalism but on the internet it is where you are redirected automatically from the site you thought you were heading to to another completely different one.

As others have said even if/when that happens there’s going to have to be some massive investment in the national grid to power the chargers when all the cars plug in at peak times.
I agree...and that is exactly what will happen eventually.
Electricity is something that can be sold so there will always be someone willing to sell it.

If every car in a motorway service area was electric there would be a bit of a queue for the charge points....most areas only have a couple....mind you shares in Costa would be a good investment.
If every car in a motorway service area was electric there would be enough charge points to accommodate them and a lot less petrol pumps.
Once there were coaching inns to service and fuel the main transport medium but somehow they managed to change over to the internal combustion engine.
I've no doubt there were folk back then saying that the horseless carriage would never catch on and they will be sticking with horse and cart.

I expect a more conventionally shaped Harborough Marine boat will be arriving in London with a pile of plywood dumped on the towpath next to a low bridgehole somewhere along the way.

Only the poor would put a caravan toilet on a boat.
I never saw the choice of whether to carry a ton of excrement around the waterways on your boat or not as a class issue before.

Apart from the fact that for most of the population there still isn't a viable electric car solution. I have no way to charge at home (on street parking), and work do not have the space to put in bigger parking bays and put in charging circuits in - so an electric car for me is a non-starter.
No me neither at the moment but my point is that progress has been made and continues to be made.
A large proportion of the boating population do have access to electricity at their home mooring though and, given incentive grants, towpath charge points could be easily installed.

According to the consultation its 2025 so you have 5 and a half years.
5 and a half years ago people said that there wouldn't be a usable network of car charging points but now every motorway service station has them, you can charge your car while shopping and there are charging points in the remotest parts of the UK.
CRT could even exploit this and get funding to install charge points and maintain the towpath like BW did with the cable laying in the 90s.
If the government are keen to make electric boating workable then CRT should exploit this as a revenue earner... Win win.

After visiting the pump out station for another inspection, I noted the large bowel with large hole at the bottom.
I used the hose that was next to it to fill my water tank, I did have the sense to let the water run and wipe the end of it.
It just concerns me that the sign above it says 'chemical waste' - there's not stuff in that water to help break things down is there ? I haven't just ruined my fresh water tank ?
The last time that hose was used it was stuck in someone's cassette, washing out their poo and wee.
I would empty your tank and refill it with some sterilising tabs.

Apparently he 'followed' in after a self pump-out and the pipe end appeared to have decided to thrash about squirting its contents all over the wall, ceiling and floor/
Yes the same happened to me after I waited for someone to finish a self - pump out in the toilet at Cropredy.
When I asked him if he was going to clean it up he just shrugged and said it was BW's job.
They are disgusting bits of kit and should be banned.

Ha ha good one, you will find that many times they dont work or are closed for the day etc etc. There are massively more elsan points around the system. Some smell for the 30 seconds of your life that you may need to use one, often they are fine and more often than not free to use.
We may differ about Brexit but on the really important issues we are in complete agreement.
