  6. Garry, are you sure about that? I dont mean to question your knowledge. Some of the pumps (Especially in-line) have bleed screws that seat on a taper seal at the bottom of the threads.... lucas for instance use them.

  9. The very fact that thy do well substantiates the fact that others "do well" too from the fruits of their labours, both from an employment point of view and the massive tax/vat/corporation tax take they provide for the government to waste spend. Its swings and rondabouts, depending where we all stand, doctors differ - patients die.
  10. You will find that the serial entrepreneurial characters that get out there and make money will have a ruthless streak, this is needed as in nature only the fittest survive. This tends to infuriate and annoy certain sectors, but the entrepreneurial person tends to take no notice of such nonsensical crap and gets on with it. "Those that can do, those that can't teach"... or try to !..... if they were any good at it then they would be making dough too.
  11. Terrible. Makes one want to deal with this scum the Northern Ireland way.... remove his kneecaps with a not so clinical 9mm pistol.
  12. No matter what you're buying an item is worth "your money"... what do I mean by that? In my line of work we buy high value second hand items regularly (not boats), we examine them, make our minds what its worth to us and make an offer accordingly. We are told many times that our offer is too low... maybe it is, but that is the sellers point of view, not ours. An item is only worth what the individual wants to pay for it, but then I am buying with a view of resale again.

  15. Some workers worth paying a lot more than that, some "workers" not with £2.50/hr. Sad, harsh fact of life but it is a fact... always was and always will be. Bottom line, companies/employers need to make money, they pay the "appropriate" rate for the quality of employee.... you will find the workers/employees who "can do" the work, produce productivity and get the work done will demand a higher salary.... but that particular employee will know that themselves and will go where they know they can achieve the higher salaries, and as a rule of thumb those people will be headhunted anyway and usually never have to look for employment...... the rest come and go. If one believes the pay not good enough then dont take the job.... it's the benefit of living in a welfare state !
  16. Note to self: "Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience."
  17. We will agree to disagree, the fact is.... I wont ever rely on the state paying me anything.... never did, never will..... not even a pension. And being able to say that I wont call them to do so is all because I got off my butt and worked....period. Can you say the same? Rant over
  18. I am an uneducated person, left school at 13, self employed since 15, worked and self educated myself..... could sign my name and count notes back then... that's about it. Those that spurt this social responsibility crap do my nut in, I hate politics, no time for it.... I have paid my dues to the state many times over.... if I need them in later life they will need to stand up and be counted and look damn smart about it.... the way I have done for 30 odd years. When you have paid for so long then you have earned the right to draw some back, the infrastructure you refer to contains many parasites, not all un-employed..... many at government level that are the real "dishonourable" ones you refer to... but you wont want to hear that, will you?
  19. There is basically 2 ways wealth is accumulated.... inherit it or make it. If we make it then we have worked, and by definition if we end "wealthy" or even well off then we will have paid our fair dues/taxes/VAT/corporation tax e.t.c, e.t.c not to mention the capital appreciation of our fixed assets that we probably had a mortgage on during or working life. If I have earned my money then I should spend it when I can, when I arrive at retirement or whatever later on then the money the Government had from me during my working life can be utilized for my up-keep. I don't see that as sponging, rather taking back what I am owed.
  20. There is a very big difference ! People who worked all their lives and paid taxes/social insurance and God knows what else should be taken care of in their old age. The parasites that lift the dole all their life, live like a parasite on the rest of society and will expect to have this treatment until they die and never contribute anything.... THEY DONT DESERVE ANYTHING.... people who contribute do. I've worked since 14 years old, paid enough taxes to see me out... "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, covered in scars, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, 'Yahoo! what a ride'" .... and if paying my taxes helps me achieve this, then happy days. The Government will owe me when I am decrepit enough, old and worn out with the snot running of my nose and needing my arse cleaned...... until then "one life, live it to the full"
  21. Hi Jim, hi Pat, hello from another pilot here !... we met you I am sure at the PFA rally years ago in Cranfield. We flew over regularly from Ireland to the UK in a Condor (Still do in a C42). I ran the Irish fly in website for years and saw your names there a few times ! The Pyrenees can be lethal, We flew 2 years ago from Ireland/Wales/UK/France/Germany/Austria/Poland/France/Spain/Portugal & home via the Channel Islands in the C42 with MTOW of 472KGS !... a wonderful trip. At 42 years old I have lost my pilots medical with a heart condition and no longer able to hold a Class 2. Like yourselves we are looking for another adventure, I have held a pilots license since I was 16. Dont let the negatives put you off, "those who never chanced anything, never had anything". We are currently looking at the options available, new boat or used, all the questions newbies have. Have spent a few months on different models and sizes and so far we like the life. Intend to initially spend 6 mts a year on-board and spend the summers here in Ireland and see where we go. We will keep our house and land as it would be irreplaceable if I sold it, I am in the process of winding down the business and will rent out my business property as it is all freehold units. We have no pension provision, rather our pensions are all in property that is rented and affords us a good return in our early 40's. If there is one thing we can take away from this life is the ability to say "I did it" , if it is right for you then go with it, dont let life run past you... grasp it and live it to the full and always remember work to live and not live to work! Good luck with it and enjoy the move.

  23. One of these probably would do, known as a "turbo dryer" but the air would need to be blown in one end of the hull and out the other. They move vast cubic metres of air per hour, commercially used by contract cleaners for drying carpet areas and should be available to hire from a good hire shop. A few hours of this moving air should push out the unwanted gasses, but advice from a person in this field would be valuable.
  24. My background is in vehicle wiring. More accurately aircraft and bespoke automotive applications, with 30+ years in the industry, and in the past 10 years a dedicated CAN-bus design and applications field. Wiring is relatively simple, MOST wiring will work in one form or another !.... even poorly designed systems. I am a firm believer in KISS systems (keep it simple stupid), it is easier to sort out when it goes wrong. Electric is identical to water, it flows, it leaks, it turns on and off. The idea of wires melting and units "blowing" is correct, but for this to happen the circuit must have energy (power), simple.... no energy, no problem. The preliminary circuit shown below will alleviate any of the above problems, if the isolator is OFF then NO ENERGY will be in the system, no wires will burn, no units will "blow".... PROVIDED there is no other supply within the system (eg) 12v being back fed from a charging item e.t.c The engine starting supply is completely separate, not integrated with this system at all. If charging of the leisure batteries is provided from engine alternator then a split charge relay is absolutely necessary to isolate the 12v supply from the engine starting battery when the engine is stopped. I hope this helps. John
