  4. All those radio aerials -MI6 listening station?
  5. My second alternator almost always needs a few more revs of engine speed to get it excited enough to silence the buzzer. However, after a prolonged period of constant cruising, the buzzer sounds after lowering the speed to tickover. Any suggestions please?
  6. Thanks for these last posts -very constructive
  7. Planning to moor there next Saturday and get a train into Brum for a meeting - are these moorings safe these days?
  8. A few of us boaters, led by Robin the Busker from Snowdrop, had a Folk Club singers evening at the lock on the pre - festival Sunday, raising money for Cancer Research UK. Damien did a few acoustic numbers - I have now sung on the same bill as the lead singer of Head space!
  9. Had this boat for 17 years. Done that countless times. Does no more than an hour or two on the cut does, as far as clearing the smoking goes.
  10. Er - there is no 'chimney'! The engine exhausts to the side, below the level of the cruiser deck
  11. My LPWS4 - circa 1992 build - has always been very smoky after being run out of gear for charging when moored up for a day or more. It always used to smoke a lot in other circumstances, but that improved a lot when I switched to Morris marine oil. Half an hour of cruising would always clear the smoke. However, we've just been moored somewhere for two weeks among other boats, and the smoking (light blue Incidentally) was pretty well nonstop. Half a day cruising has cleared it. Obviously oil is getting where it shouldn't and is getting burned off. Remedies? Start me off with less expensive suggestions and we'll progress to engine replacement suggestions later! The engine starts fine, runs fine all day and every day - it's just this embarrassing smoke!
  12. Looking for someone to look at our ff, which is still keeping stuff cold, but gobbling up amp hours, whilst we are here in Cropredy for the week. The engineers recommended by Shoreline are proving to be elusive.
  13. Just changed my 5 leisure batteries for sla's, mainly because they were more readily available where I am. As recommended I changed the dip switch settings on my Sterling alternator regulator, resulting in a much much longer charging cycle. Was it necessary to do this, and what would be the result of reverting to the standard lead acid settings?
  14. Thanks - you have helped me to crystallise my thoughts of the past day or two. I don't like the big triangular brackets, but my intention is to provide a modest tilt as you have done - just enough to drain the surface
  15. Is standing water a potential problem on a horizontally mounted panel?
  16. Do I take it that flat mounting is ok - no need for provision for tilting?
  17. Just got a 200w solar panel fitted and fixed a chain to the frame with a stainless nut & bolt. 'Er indoors pointed out the obvious - don't they always - all a tealeaf needs is a bolt-cutter. What do others do for security (if anything)? Strikes me a determined toe-rag will have it, no matter what
  18. I wondered how long it would take for the abuse to start - the croissant was just one example, but obviously it now labels me as some sort of yuppie. End of thread for me,
  19. None of the above answers my original question - is there a special arrangement for locals during that weekend? It just annoys me to be using a shop for a week or more before the festival starts, then stand open-mouthed at the price hikes. It didn't happen with the previous owners. A local friend has told me she doesn't shop there an more at all, simply because of the changes in practices
  20. No, they spend months planning an event for 20000 people just for the fun of it - scroungers on benefits the lot of em.
  21. Vidamay - just sent you a pm with our mobile - thanks a million
  22. She knows we're coming - just wanted a chat before we get there. Tell her Toni and Don want to talk!
  23. There goes half of the very popular fringe festival Just checked the village we site - the Red Lion re-opened in June - YAY!
  24. Outrageously, the only convenience store in Cropredy, makes quite significant hikes to its prices during the Fairport Festival weekend - second weekend in August, so be warned!. One day a nice warm croissant is 80p, the next its well over a quid. Does anyone know if there is a special arrangement for locals who shop there all year round, or do they just stay away from the shop that weekend?
