  1. As a motorhome owner I am used to these caravan windows. They both have advantages and disadvantages. They isolate better than single glass windows and with frames made of plastic materials they will also stop condensation better but they are very easy to break in through. In a boat built of steel they will definately be the weakest link in your burglar defense if you don´t make any special arangements like extra steel bars across the openings.
  2. I have some experience from motorhome life (three different motorhomes, ten years in all). A motorhome normally have batterypower that is at best half the amaount of a narrowboat, usually only abaout a third. Still Webasto and sometimes Eberspracher heaters are getting more common. Perhaps it is more common with solar panels in the motorhome world allthough they are not the optimum solution in wintertime when the heater is most needed.
  3. I´m planning for a new NB in a couple of years to be fitted out by myself. Heating is one of many to be solved. As I would prefere a diesel heating systeme I became curious over the above quoteation. Why can´t the Webasto be used overnight?
  4. One problem with Linux I belive is that it doesn´t work with all programs such as Lightroom, Corel Draw, Photomatix, Proshow and so on (or rather those programs doesn´t work under Linux). I expect there is ways around that but how long time will it take me to learn to overcome these limitations.
  5. Hello! I have studied the Waterway Dimensions[1].pdf from BW and I think we can live with the fact that we can´t go on the entire system. If all goes as planned and we chash in all we have here in Seden and moves to a NB to live abord we probably need the space. It will anyhow be a big difference to move frome a house of about 260 sqmeters plus a motorhome into a boat of aproximately 30 sqmeters. At present we plan for a boat with, from the rear: office 2meters, bedroom 2.5m, bathroom 1.4m, dinette/guestroom 2m, kitchen 3.3m and salon 5.2m. As I am 191cm (6ft 4in) tall I will aim for a boat with very thick bottom plate to make ballast more or less unnecessary thus giving more headroom inside.
  6. Hello everybody! My name is Michael from Sweden. I and my wife Annikka visited UK with our motorhome for four weeks vacation in August/September this year. As we parked several times by the canals we had a good look at canallife and really enjoyed it. It started a process in our minds and now we have started to plan for a live abord NB in a couple of years when we retire. Qustion is how you folks would think seeing a sedish flagged NB on your waterways? So far we have made a few scetches of different plans starting with a 58 ft long. We found it to be too short for us as a live abord so now we have extended to full 70 ft. As planning progresses I will most likely bore you all with loads of stupid questions. Be aware! //Michael
