    Where's the link?
  2. Many thanks with the replies. Will put it out to my fellow travellers to see what they opt for.
  3. Can anyone advise on the Claymoore to Middlewich or Claymoore to Manchester stretch. We would like to know which would be best for a weekend break? ie. scenery, how busy it is, pubs on route with good beers etc etc. We are looking at a short break in early September. Originally we were looking at the Llangollen but after reading a number of posts on here about how busy it is we're having second thoughts about using it for a short break. Don't really wanting to be queuing at locks, especially when I think back to our on our first trip on a canal boat which was on the Rochdale last year. We hardly saw another boat let alone a queue at a lock. Many thanks.
  4. Hi, we're looking to do a 3-4 day short break canal trip sometime in Sept 2011. Can anyone recommend the best canals that will provide us with plenty of pubs canalside but are more countryside than town based. We're looking for pubs that you can pull up to during the day and pop in for a pint or two before moving on. We did our first canal trip last year on the Rochdale between Sowerby Bridge and Todmorden. Although we had a fantastic time we did bemoan the lack of canalside pubs outside the main towns. We only found The Stubbing Wharf that was not in a town. We would be looking at canals in the North West / West of England and North Wales. Any advice appreciated. Regards.
  5. Cheers Scooby...you made it so much better for me at work today.
  6. Ok it looks like the Rochdale canal. Any pubs you can recommend for food and real ale on route?
  7. Cheers everyone. I'll be aiming for the Rochdale canal.
  8. Hi, we're 3 gents who have decided to do a Fri-Mon canal boat trip to celebrate hitting the 40 years young milestone. This will be the first time for any of us and we're seeking advice on the best canal route to follow. We're booked through Shirecruisers and we have the choice of following the Rochdale upto lock 19 or to follow the Calder & Hebble to Shepley Bridge. The boat will be heading out of Sowerby Bridge and I believe we're booked out on the 'Stafford'. We will obviously be seeking a few liquid refreshments in local pubs but at the sametime we want to take in the scenery. I've read up on both canals and can't really decide which one is best but do slightly favour the Rochdale canal. Any advice from regular boaters will be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
