  4. I had my stern gland re-packed last year and it`s been fine but we had a run out last weekend, only a short run , 5 hours, without much rushing about, if you know what I mean. 2 locks and a wind , which was text book stuff, if anyone knows the winding hole at Henhull, it`s quite big, so no real problems there. When we got back and checked below that bucket you can see was full, so I reckon I may need to tighten my nuts . I`m sure this is a very straight forward job without having to involve the engineers, but when you`ve never done it before, I don`t want to f*** things up. Is it just a quick tighten of those two nuts you see
  5. I get my masons P type made up from supertune automotive, I see from their website they have an office at castle donnington. www.supertune.co.uk
  6. Does anyone know of a good book or website that one can learn how to make these
  7. I was sat reading my engine manual the other day , in particular, gearbox oil. Manual states for it to be changed every 500 hours, as we are in that area I took a look as you do but could not see any sign of a dipstick, as is referenced in the manual. Is this normal and if so what is the procedure
  8. Thankyou very much for all replys, Trafalgar marine cracking service, all ordered - can`t wait to get started, hopefully this weekend
  9. Where would you suggest I get such material Again where do you get these panels
  10. I`m rather hoping Brian will come into this one, I bought the fender book from audlem mill yesterday, as I`ve always wanted to ave a go at making one of these. Do I have it right that it takes 54` of rope or 16.5m to make one side fender. To buy from Nantwich chandlery @ £2.50 per metre I`m sorry but this doesn`t quite stack up, or have I got it wrong - again
  11. I may have already made a cock of this, so I need a little help. We had a small leakage on one of our windows this winter, the outside has been sealed I`m hoping, but what am I to do with inside as it left us with a large black mess. A good neighbour suggested wood bleach but as that did make a small impression it wasn`t going to take it all away so I took to sanding it down, nearly taking the laminate off , yikes, what should ( if there is anything ) can I do now

    Diesel bug

Not that , to my knowlegde anyway, I have this damn thing but apparently it`s becoming more of an issue. So my question is : fuel set or marine 6, I can`t say that I`m a big fan of putting anything else other than fuel into my tank but what do you guys recommend/suggest
  13. Yeh we`ve moored in the black country before , nice and secure, I wasn`t sure how it was at the junction, before or after the locks. Done the main line and thought might do the new line
  14. Has anyone got a good idea what the overnight mooring is like in this area
  15. Someone told me yesterday that the woverhampton flight was closed yet I don`t see anything on the stoppages website
  16. Whoe, that looks mighty low , I`m not sure if we will get through that, who would be the best person to call to check water levels, bearing in mind I would be setting off from Alvechurch Marina, I`m guessing if I were to check at the marina first . We have a bit to go yet, it won`t be till the 25th March
  17. As we sit here at home on a cold and blustery sunday night, logs on the fire, nowt much on the telly. What best to do but plan a trip, and this year we thought we might cut through and do the Droitwich , any ideas, What are the moorings like at Netherwich basin and what`s the turn like out onto the river going upbank towards Stourport

    Tiramisu

Ok there must be someone out there that can shed light on my tiramisu, I don`t seem to be able to get it soft and light , mine are all fairly stodgy if I`m honest and I`m sure they purposly leave stuff out of recipes. My latest one was Gino`s cherry tiramisu, which surprisingly was quite bland Anyone got any tips to share

    Anchor Chain

Cheers for all this, we have already a 20kg Danforth anchor with I think about 30m warp, we are hoping to come up the severn at the end of march , weather permitting , on our way back from alvechurch. Going to do your old course Tony. Hi Tony, I`ve heard about not fitting it to the T stud but cannot see anywhere else, what would be my options. Staffordshire Hull
  20. What do you reckon would be the length of chain needed for a 60` narrowboat, and then how does it all fit together ie: anchor - chain - warp.
  21. Does anyone know where you could buy new ones
