  7. ok! I know I am a little slow, maybe it's down to me dancin up and down! But! What are you lot talkin about?? Nipper
  8. Dave and Di. Sorry to see you both leave the cut. Mary and I have enjoyed our suprise meetings around the system and indeed Mary has taken on Di's hand signal for "another boat coming down or up" at locks and she used it to great effect on our cruise over the last couple of weeks. Best of luck with the sale of Urquhart Castle, but if she is still available when Mary and I sort ourselves out in the not to distant future, then who knows! Best of luck also Dave, on the return back to work. But I cant help thinking that that's going to be the hardest bit! All the very best. Brian and Mary. (Water Jester)
  9. Just excepted an offer on my house, not as much as i had hoped for but it's sold! All I have to do is pay off a morgage on another house that I rent out and the rest is for a boat! so in a few weeks I'll be looking for a nice 60 footer! Yea!
  10. While your making one you just as well make two. Cus your going to break the first one pretty soon!
  11. Wow! those pics surely wet the appetite don't they! Thanks for the replies. I'll take all on board, so to speak, before I make my mind up! It seems that the prices do even up a little when fuel, collision waver, and other stuff like pet fees are added together. Nipper Note to the moderators. Is it possible to correct my incorrect spelling of Caledonian on account that I am getting old! Many thanks!
  12. Hi all! I'm content with my access to the canal system with "Water Jester" and also the open sea with my sailing cruiser "Black Strider" on the south coast, but just for a change, I'm thinking of booking a hire cruiser on the Caledonian Canal in September for the wife and I and Samy the cat of coarse! Nothing big and smart, just a basic 30ft cruiser for a week. There seems to be two companies that hire cruisers, each seem to have their own boats and also hire under the umbrellas of Hoseasons, for the company in Inverness and the other company, that hire base at Laggan, use Blake's. One company seems to be about £200 more than the other for, what looks like the same boat. Has anyone done this recently, and what hire base did you use? and what was your experience of the cruise and their bases. Thanks Nipper
  13. I'm a bit late by the looks but thanks Carlt.
  14. It's always sad to see a boat in that state! Sorry, that I'm going right off topic but does anyone know why I cant see Carlt's picture? I only see a little red cross?? Nipper

  16. Our boat is set up for entering and leaving at the bow, with rear doors locked from the inside. The idea of putting the socket (male) at the bow is to stop having to walk along the gunwale to the bow with the long extension lead on one hand and holding on with the other to the very short and bouncy finger! Nipper
  17. Thanks all! All very good points and thank you. I will check with the boat electricion on what he is proposing to do with the rear connection, but having to plugging into the existing makes a lot of sence, even to me! Right, 2.5mm Arctic cable it is then. Thank you all! Nipper
  18. Hi all! I have been tasked by our share syndicate to purchase a Victron Centaur 40 amp Battery Charger and a Safeshore Marine 70 amp Galvanic Isolator. We have a battery bank of Four 110 amp batteries and starter battery. Because Water Jester is moored bow to, I have also been asked to supply sufficient cable and a socket to allow a further new shore supply to be fitted to the front the boat, to courage members to connect up to the shore power supply, as the rear socket seems to be beyond some syndicate members capabilities, as they have to walk along the outer edge of the short figured berth. Water Jester is 60 ft long, and being a chippy who knowledge of 12v elecktrickery is limited, can i ask the forum what sort and also what size of cable they would recommend? Thanks Nipper edited cus i can't spell proper!
  19. Yes! there certainly Floundering! Sorry! Nipper

    3G

I have cruised about 500 miles this year, throughout the canal system. Never have I failed to get a signal from my trusty 3 dongle. OK it has been a little slow at times, but just sitting in the boat, looking for information on the part of the system i have arrived at, or lurking on this site, even having instantaneous chat with friends all around the world, would have been seen a bit of science fiction not so many years ago. No, I like my 3g and you don't have to pay line rental either! Nipper
  21. Thanks all for your inputs and your idea's But I can't help but question, why the chimney doesn't fit properly in the first place! Perhaps it's all down to the quality of workmanship that made the unit. I think I'll try harder to get one that fits properly. Any suggestions as to where to shop? Nipper
  22. Yes, I understand that now. There must be an inch or two that is not double skinned from what my picture shows and it does make sense that the smoke will condense. Looks like i'll be wanting a chimney of the correct size then! I wonder why this one is that bit too small? Nipper Help! Whilst I got the pics to work, I seem to have put this in the wrong section! Can some kind Mod move it to a more relevent section? Thanks!
  23. Hi all! It hasn't happened before, so why is this staining happening this year to the boat paintwork? I suspected the Chimney, but it is double lined so i don't think it can be that. Is there another reason why this is happening? Nipper Hopefully this will work!! Whilst I got the pics to work, I seem to have put this in the wrong section! Can some kind Mod sort it out for me? Thanks!
