MunkeyBoy
Hi can anyone advise me what I can use behind the fireboard to create the required air gap? Would I be able to use small tiles for example fixed with heat proof silicone? thanks.

MunkeyBoy
Packing pieces made out of fireboard should do the trick. Thanks I was thinking that but didn't want to assume the obvious,so would heat proof silicone be acceptable to use or even practical to glue it all together or does the packing need screwing and fixing rather than gluing? thanks. Rod a mod from Tod
I'm not sure what the gap should be but i would have thought that if you stuck the pieces together with heat proof silicon to the required thickness and then got some screws of the right length to go through the board, the packings and into the lining, without catching wires etc behind, i would have thought that would be ok. smileypete
Hi can anyone advise me what I can use behind the fireboard to create the required air gap? Would I be able to use small tiles for example fixed with heat proof silicone? thanks. How wide is the gap, more than 1" say? And does the fireboard/tiles rest on something below to give it decent support? If the answer to both is yes I'd be inclined to use a short piece of copper pipe with a countersunk screw down the middle, with a penny washer at each end to stop the pipe digging in. cheers, Pete. ~smpt~ Edited January 23, 2014 by smileypete
