Seeking a part of a boat, but not knowing its name!

Featured Posts

Well, I suppose I might offend it's owner, if they happen to post here......

But, honestly!

I have today seen an immaculate example of a "tug style" boat, that features these very "lifting rings", (or whatever we have decided they are! )

It has the rings, it has the tug deck, it has the "Josher bows", it even has the "rivets".......

So what' can be the problem with the aesthetics ?

Well, it also has a "semi trad" stern, complete with massive pram hood.

Now not even Hudson will deliver you that, I think!

Actually if you ignore the bit above the top guard, that's a quite presentable fore-end. Even above the guard, if you took off the hugely over-prominent 'rivets', it wouldn't be too bad.

The 'lifting eyes' or whatever show another variation and seem to be intended for pulling upwards and outwards. 'Lift and separate' ;)

I suspect Sickle gets far more admiring glances than most £100K to £150K modern "replica" boats - we simply were not prepared for that.

That is because she looks "right" and is "right" - each bump and lump, ring and rivet has a purpose and is there to make the vessel work.

Somehow bells and whistles falsely added never quite cut it.

Can't think of an apposite parallel, but compare an authentic medieval cottage with a 1930's mock tudor one....

Forgive them lord, they know not what they do.... :help:

They do -

Have been to Lymm and were taken by the Cheshire way of keeping dry

OR

have been to the US of A and wish to emulate the Amish way of life...

(I'll get me coat)
