It's been drained sometimes over the 50+ years that I remember it, but I'm not sure why as people from SE20 are a pretty civilised lot on the whole and I wouldn't expect much rubbish to end up in there. We've only got a little bit of canal left and we tend to respect it. As it's tree-lined I would expect it to slowly silt up from fallen leaves, so maybe Bromley Council feel the need to dredge it even though there hasn't been a boat on it since at least the 1930s?
